Now why on a beautiful card like that do they have to go and do a think like this------------------------>

    Payment methods accepted
    Personal check
    Money order/Cashiers check

    Sorry No PayPal.
Now looking for a 1950 Bowman Baseball Box as pictured below.

  • because paypal takes 2.9% plus .30...you already have to pay a final value fee to ebay..then they hit you again with the paypal fee...thats double dipping by ebay..I wouldn't accept paypal except for an echeck which is 5.00 flat if I were the seller either..this card is going to go thru the roof

I think that it would see even more action if the seller took paypal. Paypal offers a buyer more protection (as well as the seller), and is loads more convenient than waiting for a MO/CC or check.

What does a 9 usually go for on the bay? Or are 9's that rare?

On cards and items like that, if the seller is marginal I agree with you, but I never saw mastro, superior, memory lane or any others take paypal and they do just fine.

why would I as a reputable seller take paypal and pay approx. 9% total fees to ebay/paypal. If I wanted to pay that much I would try and negotiate with one of the auction houses at a straight 10%....

How much of a premium do you typically pay at an auction house? The buyer typically 15%, and the seller loses 10-15% as well.

It sounds like you have a personal beef with paypal. But any type of clearinghouse for taking instant payments always takes a percentage. Stores lose anywhere from 2-5% for every credit card transaction. You pay for the convenience.

  • you want to protect yourself...just use escrow.com...and as the buyer you can pay the fee to them and I am sure it will be much less than the 15% fee the auction houses charge. The auction houses also reach a different type of collector, one that may not utilize ebay...
my beef isnt with paypal...my beef is giving up 3% additional fees when I dont have to...on a 5k transaction thats another 150.00...for what to accept a payment?...

Does the bottom left corner look like it has a ding? It looks discolored at the tip.

While that corner may not be as sharp as the other 3 it doesn't look like it's dinged to me. It wouldn't have received the 9 if it was dinged. That corner may be the only reason this card isn't a 10.

I'm seriously considering going for my first baseball slab here. Oh Gahd! Somebody stop me! image

I track my set fairly close. There can be deals to be found when credit card services are not offered in the auction. I would assume this is due partly to convenience and partly to security. Also, it crimps international bidding due to issues regarding foreign currency for checks and US banks who dont accept foreign MO's or Drafts without userious fees to the client cashing them. And an extensive hold time at that.

That's interesting. I'm always looking to collect on the cheap, but I think the same premise may apply to this:

    ernie

Feedback is good, the price is right, but since there's no scan, and the card's in Guam, nobody has bid. I asked the seller to send me a scan, but nothing so far.

    Mac53,

the last PSA 6 sold for around 85 bucks

  • Mac - I wouldnt worry about the Banks card simply because it is in Guam. Ive sold many cards to that person and he has 25+ sets on the Set Registry.

Have concerns about not receiving a scan before bidding, as that would help tremendously, but I wouldnt have any concerns about the legitimacy of the seller.

2 g's with 5 hours left. My guess of 2,500.00 may be too low.

Any guesses at the final price?

  • Ends at $2008, I would've thought twice that.

Check out the buyer's history. over 500 cards this month alone. And not cheap ones.
