Do you look for the Circulation-style Reverse on Proof Lincoln cents errors?

The variety is the flip side of circulation-strike Lincoln cents of various dates struck with Proof-style reverses.

It is speculated there may be examples from 1994 and after.

I'm just probably one of many that never really looks carefully at the reverse of coins. Which is why the greatest amount of errors found are usually the obverse. After reading this I'll say I'll have to check my sets but will forget by the time I leave this computer.

I looked over the dealers' proof sets at the TNA show last Friday, and I did find a circulation-style reverse on the cent of one 1999 proof set.
  • I examined mine about two weeks ago. I went through about 20 sets and found none.

    I have been looking.
Let me see if I have this straight:

Proof Lincoln Memorial Cents should have wide AM
1993 Proof only should have close AM

Circulation Lincoln Memorial cents should have wide AM up to 1994
    1994-present should have close AM

Anything different from these mint specs is considered a rare variety.

    Correct?

    xbob,

    The relevant years are 1994-2002.

On the Business strikes for those years, the AM in American should be "close," i.e. touching.

On the Proof strikes for those years, the AM in America should be "wide," i.e. a clear space between them.

The "Wide AM" is the variety of interest among the Business strikes.

the "Close AM" is the variety of interest among the Proofs.

Yup, I've been looking for them. Don't be fooled by the 1993S proofs that are supposed to have the "close AM" reverse. All the others from 1990 to date have the "wide AM."
