I've seen all of the movies, but by no means a junkie...the last 2 were overall very poor, but people are praising this one as a great film. I suspect it's the build up, and the turning of Anakin to Darth Vader (by far the most compelling character in any of the 6 films).
I'll watch it in the theater at some point, but by no means am going to battle all the star wars geeks to see it anytime within the first couple of weeks.
no way you will see me in a line. made that mistake when i was 15 to get into a huanted house with my girlfriend 5 hours for a 10 minute walk through! man id like that 5 hours of my life back!
What, you won't see this movie absolutely everywhere when it comes out? What about your job (if you have one, I guess) - uh, boss...I won't be in for 2 weeks because I am waiting in line to see Star Wars #whatever - okay?

Insane.
<< <i>I believe that there have been Geeks camped out in line out at The Chinese Theatre? in Hollywood? or somewhere for roughly SIX weeks now.
Insane. >>
Ask gobravesgo, he's there in line.

What a charmer you are, axtell. It is hard to believe you do not have more friends around here.

Hey, I don't need friends like GBG!

<< <i>So, you are telling me that people actually camp outside theaters for 6 weeks? What about work? Or maybe they have a tent set up to save their space and can leave to go for work and then return. There must be an agreements between the star wars fans about that--not stealing eachother's spot while they are at work. They must look out for one another to make sure the group does not get invaded by other fans. It must be limited to say 35 tents. Those 35 tenters protect eachother until they can see the movie together since it does not matter if one is #1 or #35, since all get in the theater that day. Nice Cooperation they have. >>
From what I've seen, I think they go up to 8 weeks. I honestly don't get it...I am passionate about a lot of things, but this is something that just completely escapes me. I would understand more if it were a once-in-a-lifetime showing of something truly extraordinary, but the movie will run for months and months, and then be available on cable and video. What could prompt people to give up 2 months of their lives to sit in line for a movie?
I don't think they go to work...I think honestly they sit there and just geek out on star wars stuff all day...I guess I just don't get it.
I can understand waiting in line at Toy R Us at midnight to get some free action figures when promotions for the Episode 3 figures were going on.
I can also understand fans buying Episode 3 action figure cases because they want the figures in absolutely mint untouched condition.
But six weeks in a tent with a bunch of other Star Wars fans and geeking it out over movie talk, action figures, posters, games, novels, etc....no, got better things to do.

<< <i>Perhaps those people waiting in line are paid by the movie studios. Maybe they do this so people talk about the people waiting in line and generate free publicity. Maybe even get on the local news for some more buzz. >>
Everything I've seen is these people do it because they love this movie this much.
My favorite is Empire, and hopefully this one will surpass it in all aspects.

Empire is the best of all of them.
1. Its probably a "party-like" atmosphere, camping out with other fans and talking/eating/drinking together.
2. The attention. They are the "talk of the town". Media coverage interviewing them--getting them on TV and/or newspaper articles that their family/friends can see and they can save on the VCR or in a scrapbook. Plus certain interent chat boards are talking about them (even if in a non-positive light).
3. Actually seeing the movie on opening day is possibly less a thrill than the first two reasons. Maybe they get a kick out of being the first to see it--kind of like how certain card collectors might prefer GAI "First Graded" cards over the same card graded at a later time.
In any event, if they can afford to take time off from jobs and other commitments, then I say have a good time and enjoy.
I ususally wait for the Star Wars films to hit HBO orShowtime before seeing them, but this one may be worth seeing on the big screen. I'm sure if I do, I'll wait a few weeks and go see a weekend matinee when the theater isn't crowded.

If you go during the week before school lets out you get the bonus of (a) getting bargain matinee pricing and (b) smaller crowds.
I will not throw any stones.
loth
I saw Episode III yesterday - just walked right up. I decided to take a long lunch, and it was well worth it.
<< <i>Hey Axtell, I agree with you that "Empire" was the best .... still is.

You agree with me? Nooooooo.
I must be getting soft in my advancing years! haha jk.
Empire rules and Hayden Christensen was a whiny little Anakin. He really did the series a disservice. I haven't gotten to see the new one yet (going on tuesday), but I am sure it cannot possibly be worse than the last 2 (they were god-awful).
I suspect seeing episode 3 will make me want to watch episodes 4 through 6 again, though...even if the versions on the DVD are quite different from the theatrical versions.
<< <i>anyone ever see the bit where Triump the insult comic dog on Conan O'Brian's show >>
Yeah, that was priceless.. Anyone who hasn't seen this should search around for it.. Too funny.
and then click on the link "http://www.milkandcookies.com/stuff/triumphvsw.asx" which only works if you click on it from the above link.. so it seems for me anyway.
the 2nd time around.
Saw Episode III on Friday. No more than 25 people in the theatre at the
first show at 11:15AM. It was a bit sad, and the effects were great.
A little bummed that it's the last one. Come on George.... time for Episode VII (Han and Lea's Kid saga??).
Empire is still the best.

Just got back from Star Wars movie. I took my 11 year old son and his friend. Compared to the more recent ones it was very good. The Jar Jar Binks one was the worst. It's amazing that the 6 epsisodes have spanned almost 30 years!!!! When George Lucas came out with the first one I am sure Lucas and his fans had no idea it would take this long to complete the series.
Oh, did I mention the Yanks came from behind and beat the Mets while I was at the movie?!?! Turned the game off at the top of the 8th as I entered the movie. I missed a lot.
Thanks for that link!
