SAINTS AND HIGH-END MORGAN PRICES

I was just curious to find out from all the Saint collectors and high-end Morgan collectors (MS66+), what do you
typically use for your a price gauge for purchases? Blue Sheets? Other Wholesale prices? Trends? Hopefully not
Collector's Universe prices. What parameters do you use for determining how high you will pay?

Also if dealers, who do you think gives greatest value when you consider purchasing Saints or High-End Morgans?

PLEASE NO COIN DEALER RESPONSES!

Thx, Dave

Obviously I prefer gold to silver coins and have chosen the 20th Century gold series to focus upon but I believe Morgans or Saints are great. Just keep in mind that there are more expensive Saints then there are Morgans and if completion is your goal I would do Morgans....

Pricing is pretty much getting involved and viewing auction prices.....Check out the Heritage archives or go to www.ecoinage.com

    Good luck and have fun!

  • My experience, over 20 yrs at Morgan collecting, is that it depends on the rarity of the coin. If it is a high end common S mint then I stick to being conservative unless it is a "wonder coin". The rarer the date and the higher the grade, assuming you agree with grade and like the eye appeal, the more I have had to pay.

You can believe it or not but the better the grade and eye appeal and the more I paid, the more I was able to realize at time of sale.

I don't think you will find many "bargains" for the really nice ones.

Outstanding Saints ( The rare ones ) have no top end. If the coin is super rare, and pristine, then the sky is the limit !!
If you have the ONLY watering hole on the desert, then YOU set the price !!
I have paid THREE ( 3 ) times what a coin was worth to obtain the piece that I wanted. I have known MANY others that did the same.
  • Ditto!

I would just add that when I purchase and own a coin in that category I get maximum pleasure from the hobby. To me this is a hobby and I almost don't care about selling although the better the coin the easier it is to find a buyer.
