Is this another PayPal scam????????

I got this e-mail today saying PayPal would discontinue their "Bill Pay" Service by August 1, 2005. There is a telephone number listed to call but it doesn't work. Is it true? Is Bill Pay ending? It doesn't ask for any ID Codes & I don't know why they would send an e-mail with a non-working number?

Dear Gary,

We are writing to let you know that PayPal's BillPay service will be discontinued in early August, 2005. If you currently use BillPay, you will need to make other arrangements for your online bill payments prior to August to avoid any interruption in service. We regret any inconvenience this may cause, and we will send you periodic reminders as the cancellation date approaches.

None of your pending payments will be affected by this announcement; however, payments should not be scheduled after August 1, 2005 in order to ensure that they are completed.

Please be advised that this will not affect your PayPal account. You will still be able to use PayPal to pay for purchases on eBay and thousands of other merchants on the Web, as well as to send or receive money online.

It's real I got it to. There just not making enouph money on it so there guitting.

The fact that it addresses you by name and does not include a link of any kind, would tend to make me think this one is real.

I'd say be VERY careful. I've gotten a number of emails from paypal, ebay and AOL recently saying my account is or has been closed. I ignore them. Steve

I called PayPal via another number I had. I talked to a guy who said, "BillPay is a popular service that is really taking off. I use it myself and haven't heard anything about it but let me check with my supervisor" He checked and sure enough PayPal is ending Bill Pay in August.
