Counterfeit U.S. coins in South/Central America?

Do I remember correctly that U.S. coins, I think they included the Susan B. Anthony dollar, were used frequently in South/Central America? If I remember correctly, these were used more frequently than in the U.S. and that most of them were counterfeit. I'm going to be in Guatemala and Honduras in July and I think it would be neat to own one of these coins. Does this jog anyone's memories? Thanks in advance. image

SACs in Equador, the US sent a crapload down there for them to use as currency. I read that bunches were being counterfitted in Columbia.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!
