If you submit a "dirty" coin to be graded, will the graders attempt to grade it or just bo

I guess the question is - Will the graders attempt to lightly brush, wipe or any other means to improve a coins appearance, or do they have strict guidelines not to attempt this in any way.

Depends on how dirty. If its too dirt it will be BB for enviornmental damage. I doubt they would try to clean it since brushing away dirt may damage the coin by hairlining it.

Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.

  • Grade or BB it, unless you send it to NCS!!

I've had some reasonably dirty coins slabbed.......for low grade coins its probably a lot more acceptable!

I've had some Gold coins dipped by PCGS after I submitted them for slabbing. They were vastly improved, too. They seem to know what they are doing.

Did they ask permission before dipping your coin? I didn't think PCGS cleaned coins. If they did it without permission, I can see some anti-cleaning fanatics raising he11.
