11 BGS BVG crossovers...Guess the Grade

I just cracked 11 BGS/ BVG and resubmitted them to PSA. I only wish that I scanned and showed before I sent them in. I did however save the grading labels which have their subs. I was wondering if any of you wanted to guess what PSA will grade thes based on Beckett's sub grades. If someone wants to host and show the .jpg of the labels, that would be awesome I can e-mail them to you. The cards just hit PSA last week so hopefully they will be graded soon and I will post the grades as they come back.

These are 11 of 200+ cards that I have at PSA right now so I don't know if a larger submission(due to what I have read) will yeild better grades. 6 Football, 3 Baseball and 2 Basketball, so there is a little something for everyone, sorry knuckles I have zero hockey image I wish I did !

th subs will be listed as centerin/corners/edges/surface final grade

1. 1976 #148 Walter Payton 9.5/8.5/8.5/8 8.5

2. 1978 Topps #320 John Stallworth 8/8/8.5/8.5 8

3. 1975 Topps #318 John Hannah 9/8/8.5/9 8.5

Out of curiousity, were any of those from when Beckett first started grading (before BVG) and have the BGS label on them?
Yeah, I uploaded that KC icon in 2001

I agree with Fletch that several of those will be rejected as trimmed, just because that's about the percentage of BGS cards that turn out to be trimmed. For your sake I hope it's only 2 and not the 4 that he predicted.

A reverse experiment that many are trying is cracking out their PSA 9's to see how many BGS 9.5's they can get. At the moment this is a low-risk, high-profit venture because 9.5 is now almost the default grade for modern material at Beckett -- and most of that market still believes the initial hype that 9.5's are rare and elite. I think the balance will swing the other way, though, as more and more people get 95% of their BGS submissions back as 9.5's and 10's.

Brett, no, they were all BVG.

And Fletch...I hope you aren't right. I am pretty sure the Payton is unaltered. It came out of a set I put together in the 80's and sat on the shelf for a long time until grading became the new thing and I went back to see what gradables were just sitting on the shelf. If there are any that may come back trimmed, I would guess the OPC parker because of a thread that was on here recently about the older OPC's being sheet cut.

I think it's idiotic to assume a card is going to come back as trimmed without even looking at it.

    zef204,

I think your cards will come back fine. For what it's worth, I've had some cards get turned down by BVG for trimming that later graded fine with PSA.

I agree. Most of the cards I physicall took from packs/vending.

I think a BVG 9 or 9.5 is far more difficult to get than a PSA 9.

    Zef,

I think I can predict one of the grades for sure.

    4. 1979 Topps # 345 Ted Hendricks(blank back) 8.5/8.5/9/8 8.5

    Not holdered. Will not grade.

I don't think PSA grades blank back cards. I could be wrong, but I remember hearing this or reading it somewhere. You should get your money back for that card's submission.

    Lee,

I checked the pop rep for the 1976 MSA discs and every one that PSA has graded is blank backed. I was referring to cards that weren't supposed to be issued with blank backs, but I could still be wrong.

JRDolan- Your preaching to the chior man. We've all heard it more than a few times. This is the PSA message board. Why not go over to the Beckett message board and let them know your viewpoints on this?

You may already be over there, I have no idea. Also, I am in no way being sarcastic or anything. Nothing sinister behind this post. Just a comment I felt I had to make after hearing 'BGS 9.5's are the standard grade' spew so many times.

You smackin' me on Aug. 25 for a comment I made on May 11? The past 4 months have borne out what I said back then (unfortunately) but this is an old thread that someone revived. Surely I've said something more recently than May 11 to get "aw shaddup already!"

Would anyone else here be interested to learn what percentage of people here that rip on Beckett have actually had an appreciable number of cards graded by Beckett?

I just noticed that Ahman is colleting BOTH '71 and '62 Topps FB.

So, does masochism run in your family, or did you come to it on your own image
