1895 DOLLAR FROM ACCUGRADE TO PCGS NOW FOR SALE

We just arrived back from Central States with a boat load of new coins. One that we thought might be of interest is our 1895 Dollar.

We bougth this coin in an Accugrade A-63 holder (translation= Proof 63 but cleaned). Our opinion was that it was overgraded and we did not want to offer it to our customers in this holder. So we crossed it to PCGS. The result? Now we have a coin that we are willing to sell to our customers and agree much more with PCGS's grade, PR50.image

Pretty typical for a key date in an ACG slab.

.......in an Accugrade A-63 holder (translation= Proof 63 but cleaned)

So.....PCGS is saying that the coin was NOT cleaned? image

OR just looking the other way because it's a '95?

It takes a lot for PCGS to bag a 95. Same goes for the 93-S.

Looks like it was cleaned, and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned and cleaned image
I'm the Proud recipient of a genuine "you suck" award dated 1/24/05. I was accepted into the "Circle of Trust" on 3/9/09.
  • I think the coin is actually pretty natural. The cleaning appearance comes from having proof surfaces. Maybe Accugrade used the word 'cleaned' in order to justify their Choice Proof grade. image

Net grading the coin down to 50 seems pretty reasonable to me. Appears to still have a lot of cameo to it, and now that it's in a real holder it's sure to find a new home.
    When in doubt, don't.
