Now that the #2 Lincoln cent collection is retired ....

Who will be the new #2 ????

Will Gerry register his collection ?

Will High Desert register his complete collection ?

Will Laurens Lincolns get the elusive 25 s ?

Maybe the old man "Buddy" who lives here in SF will slab his two BU rolls of 1909-S VDBs. Tons of stuff that his grandfather bought at face back in the day.

How do you "retire" a set?

Does PCGS do that for you?

Just curious, not retiring just yet.

When a set is deleted and over 90% complete, you get the option of keeping it in the all time list (and thus it is retired).

    Stewart -

I know a million people have probably asked you this question but I am fairly new here so I thought I would ask. Why is it that you list your #1 set in the registry but refuse to let people know what exactly is in it?

P.S. We can't even see what coin you just upgraded. Was it the 1909-S VDB?

Several of the top Lincoln sets are hidden. They'll argue that they don't want dealers to know what they need so they won't get jacked up on prices. Of course, nobody has ever named any of these dealers that allegedly hold coins hostage.

Uhhh...still not exactly retired yet, as it still shows up in the Lincoln Registries, both with and without vareties.

Nice chatting with you at Central States, Stew. Wonder what Mershon will do now with the ten that didn't sell? Too bad he set those reserves so high!

  • Ira,
I was wondering the same thing. The lots that didn't sell were listed on the Heritage website for a few days, but now are gone. I doubt someone came in a bought them all, so where are they?

I believe the set is retired. It's not listed anymore in the current finest sets. Only the all time finest.

  • Does anyone know what the total $$ take was for the Mershon set??
