Does anyone know why Sosa . . .

. . . . hasn't played for the last several games? I can't see anything saying that he's been injured.

  • I heard he hurt his foot. But not from a sneeze.

And then he forgot how to speak English again (like he did at those hearings) and couldnt tell the trainer image.

Cold. I figured he ran out of 'roids. Actually, I really like Slammin' Sammy. He hasn't forgotten where he came from.

He has an abscess on his left foot that was drained and treated by the head trainer a couple of times, but they don't want to risk infection. It's been x-rayed and needs to heel. This, per The Baltimore Sun.

  • I like him too Mac and just cringe when the Chicago media still talk about how the Cubs are better off without him.

I just thought the temporary loss of the English language at the hearings was just too incredible to believe, as has been his Chico Escuela act as well. If I remember right, you are a Chicago area guy and you probably saw through his little act about 10 years ago.

But he did hustle and did excite the crowd and, without him, the Cubs lineup is pathetically inept and boring.

He is now on the 15 day DL. Surprising that Baltimore is playing as well as they are, and he really hasn't done much yet. I figured him to have a big year, if nothing else, to get back at the Cubs and Chicago.

Well what does that say about his value to the team if they are still playing as well as they are and he hasn't done anything, say, by July. Do they work on dealing him?

I bet that a deal for him could be in the cards...if the Orioles are still contending in late July, I bet Angelos spends some money and tries to go for the postseason. At this point, if their pitching holds up, I worry more about them than anyone else in the division.

Why not, especially since the Cubs are the ones stuck with a majority of his salary for this year. With, Roberts, Mora, Palmeiro, Lopez, Tejada, and Gibbons, who needs Sosa?

But then again, I said almost the same thing about the Cubs and look how that offense turned out......not that Sosa would have been a big help.

I see no logic in the O's trading him, despite their performance without him. He is a revenue draw at the ticket office and a foundation for most of the advertising the club has done this year to drive the important sponsor/media revenues. Angelos shot himself in the foot in the mid-ninties by thinking players are disposable and the money would keep coming his way due to O's tradition, the park at Camden Yards, etc......After that self induced debacle, he was lucky to have Ripken's loyalty to the club carry their revenues while he was chasing milestones, and later retiring. Sammy will heel up, contribute when the current over acheivers wane a bit, and be there at the end of the season. IMHO.

  • Coincidentally....(or maybe not).... Sosa is not traveling with the team to Chicago this weekend for the Orioles only visit to Chicago this year.

It will be interesting to see how soon he is back in the lineup after Sunday's game.
