Finally this sorry sport is moving away from me-first thug ball.

International players with real skills are taking over and none to soon.

I'm all for the DIVERSITY.

As much as I admire Nash's game, it's very difficult for me to grasp his winning the MVP. Yes, I know his team got significantly better with him playing this year, but the same could easily be said for both Shaq and Wade. And I can't help but feel his being white had something to do with it.

Wade is a true force and will be a superstar for years to come. Shaq's presence elevated his game to a very high level, and one could easily argue that the Shaq was as much a reason for that as anything.

By no means a Shaq fan, but you can't help but admire how dominating he his and how he took a mediocre team like the Heat and make them truly dominant. They destroyed the Nets (who many pundits had felt would give them some competition), and Shaq has been the force behind that.

    Call me carzy.

Shaq is 7'3" and 330+ lbs. How hard is it for this to produce, naturally.

And Nash...I am taller than him. Its about skills. Steve had to develope a real game to even get to the NBA.

Shaq was given a free life the day he was born. He was being recruited by colleges in the 6th grade. And he still doesn't look very graceful,
just physically dominant. Which he didnt have to develope or earn.

Shaq was destined for greatness. Nash had to go out there and earn everyday like you and me.

    Phoenix:
Last year: 29-53 This year: 62-20

    Miami:
Last year: 42-40 This year: 59-23

  • THere are other factors at an increase in a team's record like Phoenix. Don't forget to check out the records of the teams the left! Nash's former team didn't do too bad, so they didn't miss him too much. Look at Shaq's former team image

If that's all it was, wouldn't there be a league full of big men dominating?

It's not that easy, and Shaq is a lot more athletic than people give him credit for.

You bring up the fact that Phoenix's wins increased a lot more; that is true, but let's not forget Miami gave up THREE starters from a team that won 42 games last year. Also as Skip mentioned, Dallas without Nash still is one of the best teams in the west, whereas the lakers without Shaq sucked horribly.

    Good points.

But Shaqs combo of height and bulk make him unique. Not too many humans that size.

Shaq is a great player, but dont tell me he has to work as hard as Nash to be great.

A huge point in Shaq's favour.

Actually what killed the Lakers this year was injuries.

At the All-Star break the Lakers were a playoff team in a tough Western Conf. They had reached the 6th spot at one time before the break

They absoulutely were a team that couldn't afford injuries and when Odom and Kobe went down with injuries, Odoms ended his season, they were doomed

Sir, people like you are the reason there is talk of the MVP voting being racially motivated.

    Good point, N162.

The comment above also suggests that national players have no real skills, that only the internationally players do. That's an incredibly inaccurate statement, and juvenile. I won't bother typing the long list of national players who equal or exceed Steve's skills. International players are coming into the NBA more and more every year, which is a good thing, but they certainly are not "taking over". I wonder why you wish for them to "take over". So the game can lack defense and there will be nothing but a bunch of jump-shooters on the court? No thank you.

It was a close vote this year for MVP. However, most writers spoken to who voted for Steve mentioned how they could have swayed either way with their vote. On the other hand those who voted for and felt that Shaq should have been the MVP were solid in their conviction.

Steve licks his fingers before touching the ball. Shaq slams it home with authority.

Stoudemire, Suns run past Mavericks to grab series lead

Whats that about the team they left?

No clown, the reason is people refuse to beleive a 6'3" white guy would ever have the game to beat a black player.

Its is racism...reverse racism. I think you will find more people tuning in to watch Nash style team oriented ball with passing (gasp!).

Shaq sticking his butt into a guys chest, doing a half turn 2 feet from basic grows tiresome.

I love watching these international players coming into the league schooling the street ballers. It may save the NBA from itself.

i rather have nash then shaq
  • It's easier to be a small skilled player than a big skilled player. Thats why teams are always looking for big guys, not vice versa. Shaq suffers from the same stigma Chamberlain did-nobody wants to root for Goliath!

I think Nash is deserving of the award and people are making a bigger deal out of it than a gracious Shaq whom congratulated him and has his eyes set on the "big prize".

    My last post on this:

I love kind of man that Shaq is. He funny, nice to fan's, helps out the local Police as an honorary deputy.
There is nothing not to like. No doubt he is one of the most dominant players of all time in this league.

My point is that if a 6' 2" point guard from Canada who attended a mid-grade college is even being considered against Big Diesel,
you have to reward the little guy.

My point is that Shaq should have more game than he does and it should include some other elements besides people 2 footers and dunks.

    Can he be stopped? No.

Why? You want your center running the floor?

A dominant center clogs up the middle, gets 25 and 10 a game.

What hurts shaq is unrealistic expectations...he puts up 25 and 10 consistenly and people go 'that's it?'

What a racist comment. I really hope you meant to say to say "people refuse to believe a 6'3'' guy would have the game to beat a 7'1'' player." Bringing their race in to account is, in itself, a racist comment. Who gives a damn what their skin color is?

I haven't heard anyone use race as a determining factor in choosing Shaq over Nash, or vice versa. Most arguments I hear go like this: "Shaq left the Lakers, they went from Western Conference champions to 11 games out of a playoff spot, and he took the Heat went from the bottom of the Eastern conference to the #1 seed. Nash turned the Suns around to Western Conference contenders, but the Mavs actually improved wiithout him."

I've read your comments in the past when race comes up. Seems like you're nothing more than a racist who doesn't want to admit it.
