Even considering the amount of cards out there, I am sure most would agree that most cards from the '80s are easily forgetable.

Just this weekend I was looking through a box of 1981 cards to make sure there was nothing else worthy of grading. I stopped when I got to a Joe Charbaneau... just like it was summer of '81 again... and then I rembered it was worthless and thumbed on.... However, 10 minutes later I went back to Joe C. It's worthy of a 9 or 10 so for $5 I am going to send it in and get it graded. It was a fun time back then hoarding Joe C rookies! Of course, living in LA I also hoarded Fernando rookies! Great memories!

I am sure they could have included tons, but feel they hit most of the significant ones.

But one I haven't seen mentioned yet is the Canseco issues.

I think at one time they were what, $150?

yeah, that 86 D was definitely $100+ when he had his 40/40 season. What about Hershiser's RCs after he had that shutout streak?

great cards.. brings back memories.. my first "money" card was a 85 Fleer Eric Davis.. i was 11 years old and my dad got it for me in 1987 in a shoebox full of 85fleer cards at a yard sale and i think the eric davis booked at $18 bucks.. heh..

Remember there was a time, if memory serves me right, that the 87 Topps McGwire was worth more than the 85 issue, people were calling that one his rookie card. Please correct me if I am wrong on this.

Yes, there was a lot of debate about the McGwire cards. 1985 was his Olympic card so it was viewed as not quite a legitimate RC, merely a curiosity. I wasn't reading Beckett, or even collecting, at the time, but I somehow remember hearing about it. I think I picked up a Beckett in a mall in 1987 and saw how my childhood collection had exploded in value and I went out and bought 10 packs of Topps. I still have those cards, but most of my childhood cards were gone by then. Beckett might have confused matters by using the XRC notation, though. Sounds like something they'd do.

Exactly right on. While I don't have a 100-count stack of any of those cards, I do have a stack of about 10-20 on most of them. I do remember paying $4.75 each for (7) 1987 Mike Greenwell cards. With many here sitting on multiple-count stacks of all of the cards in the 1980s, it is no wonder why we talk about these cards as (relatively) worthless. They were fun to get and collect (esp. when I worked in a store in the late 1980s) but now I really, really, really wish I had not spent so much money (or any money for that matter) on 1980s cards and instead bought vintage when they were a fraction of the value now.
