How long is too long?

I sent in three submissions for the non-sports special. Here are the dates:

SUBMISSION 1
Shipped: 4/25
Received: 4/28
Grades: 5/3

SUBMISSION 2
Shipped: 4/27
Received: 4/29
Grades: 5/4

SUBMISSION 3
Shipped: 4/29
Received: not yet
Grades: not yet

Should I be concerned that my first two submissions were received in 2 or 3 days but here we are a week later and my third one still isn't entered as received?

PSA has been herky jerky lately. Some subs being processed right away, and some taking forever. Seems like luck of the draw. Are you trying to complete the GPK sets? I've been thinking of picking up some boxes of each series up to 9 (the ones I collected as a kid) and going after a complete set of each. What do you think a series 1 and 2 box will run me?

  • 1st series boxes vary in price...typically between $600 and $1000 (but most often around $750). Make sure you get a USA box and not the OPC box (unless you want the Canadian cards) or the UK box. The 2nd series boxes typically sell for $125 - $200 (most often around $150-$170). It is very likely that you will be able to put together a complete set from a box, but they will not all be the most ideal cards. Some will have wax or gum staining and some will not be centered well. Then you have the chance of pulling cards that have dings and such. Topps used their lower quality equipment on the 1st and 2nd series so those cards are known for being less than ideal in general, but you can still find nice cards as you can see in the population report. It just takes some searching. To give you some perspective, I opened a 1st series box and got 42 cards (out of the 240 in the box) that graded as a 9 or 10 and that was doing well (I'm not a sports collector so I don't know how that compares to sports card pulls in 1980s)
  • Is it at all possible that they keyed the order number different than what was preprinted on the form?

You could have made a mistake on the order form. It takes them FOREVER to enter the order if that happens.

  • Do you mean a mistake like entering the wrong card number/name on one of the lines?

One time I put the wrong shipping amount down and it took them a week and a half to call and inform me of the change. Also, it seems they get very swamped after accepting submissions at shows. I handed in an order back in November in Chicago and it took over two weeks for it to be entered into the system (and another 2 months to grade the order - which is another story).

I agree with Greg. If there is an error, then there will be a serious delay. This happened to me recently due to an inappropriate shipping total. You may try calling them. (I sent an order on April 11 and it was not "received" until April 30 due to this error).

I sent in a second April non-sports special, postmarked April 30, and it isn't posted as received yet either.
However, the posting date doesn't reflect the date the package was actually rec'd; it reflects the date the order gets put in the system. I'm sure they got flooded with end-of-month submissions and they're still trying to post at the end of the week material rec'd the beginning of the week. Patience is the key word here - at the risk of sounding like dabighurt, it'll get posted when it gets posted.

  • Well I have problem waiting. As long as there isn't reason to believe the package got lost in the mail, I'm fine with the delay. I was so impressed with the turnaround of 3 business days on the first 2 submissions that I can handle waiting if need be on this one.
