Help! Anyone else think there's something wrong with this Reggie auto?

1990 UD Reggie Jackson auto card

I landed this card this morning for $75 when it normally goes for $100+. I’ve just received an e-mail from a helpful eBayer who advised that I check the hologram on the rear. If it’s round rather than diamond shaped, he said, it’s a fake. Anyone got previous experience with this card? On closer examination now, the signature looks too big and the “44” isn’t incorporated into the “J” of Jackson the way it usually is. Fortunately I haven’t paid for it yet but any advice on how to proceed would be welcome.

    I do not think that looks close to his autograph, his letters are not that big and are tighter together.

    Sorry to say but that doesn't look legit. I recall that card way back in the day but I believe he signed his name together rather than 1st on top of his last.

    As in "Reggie Jackson" rather than:

    Reggie
    Jackson

    Here are current Ebay listings with his auto.
    So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

    No way that is legit. Run away from this one!

    Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there is no way that auto is real.
    I am on a budget and I am not afraid to use it!!

    I know someone else who is better versed in the Upper Deck Heroes autographs, but I don't know when they can respond. Otherwise, it definitely does not look like the prototypical Reggie signature.

    The numbering on the auto. is suspect in and of itself
    I am actively buying MIKE SCHMIDT gem mint baseball cards. Also looking for any 19th century cabinets of Philadephia Nationals. Please PM with additional details.

    yes, i'm 99% sure the hologram should be a diamond.. the regular non-auto'd copies had round holograms..

    Thanks for the excellent input everyone.
    I don't intend to take my first neg on the chin if I can avoid it. Isn't there an eBay policy about members who sell fake autographs etc.? If anyone could drag it up for me so that I can use it as ammunition, I would be most grateful. In the meantime, I have been contacted by the seller re: payment and have replied as follows:

    "Since this auction closed, a number of people have contacted me to point out that this is not an authentic autographed card as described, but instead a rather clumsy fake - hence the closing price of $75, considerably less than the $110+ that this card usually sells for on eBay. In order to clarify matters, I would be grateful if you would forward a scan of the back of the card in order to establish if the correct hologram is present – Jonathan White"

    Correct hologram or not, that's bogus. I have 3 signed in person auto's from Reggie. That is not his sig. Good Luck.
    Proud of my 16x20 autographed and framed collection - all signed in person. Not big on modern - I'm stuck in the past!

    Just thought I would update this one for everyone who took the trouble to help me out. Contrary to my expectations (and I suspect most other people’s) the seller, far from being a scammer, was merely the victim of someone else. He readily forwarded a scan of the card-back which proved the forgery and without prompting offered to cancel the transaction and tear up the card. He proved to be a stand-up guy just starting out selling cards on eBay and the last thing he needed was the reputation of a peddler of dodgy cards. So I am happy to vouch for him.

    For my part this has been a salutary lesson. In my innocence, I had believed that all manufacturer-issued autograph cards were above-board and consequently hadn’t examined the glaringly obviously forged signature. And I would have known nothing until PSA/DNA fired it back to me as “Questionable Authenticity”, if it wasn’t for a fellow eBayer who took the time to point it out to me (elvis0718, take a bow!) and all of you here who weighed in with confirmation.

    It’s good to have friends (enough, already)
