Cost per win statistics?

Has anyone ever ran statistics determining the cost per win for each team? What I mean, for example, is if a team wins 100 games and has a payroll of $100 million - that's a cost of $1 million per win. Such calculations would be fair in gauging success because a great number of wins could partially compensate for a gaudy payroll. It would also reveal whether small market/payroll teams are relatively successful.

I bet the A's of the past few years are at or near the top of this type of list.
