25% down...long, long road to go...

With the acquisition of 11 new cards today (thanks Steve), I have moved to exactly 25% completion on my 1971 set, with a GPA of 7.02 and set rating of 1.85, putting me at #29 on the 1971 registry. I had no idea this was going to be such a long, long road....though I should have taken on a smaller set than this behemoth (752 cards) for a first set. I have had little lapses in focus, working on my Boggs basic/master set and I have started a 1985 topps football set as well, but my main focus is going to be the 71 set. I'd gladly look into bulk sales of 7's (see my adline). Not bad for me for a bit over a year in.

Just wanted to give a thanks to everyone who has helped me out so far!

  • What a coicidence.

I'm 25% on my 1971 Topps Greatest Moments set and was thinking the same thing. Similar grade point average as well.

Okay, who's got the tougher road?

I have a lot more cards to acquire, you have fewer to choose from.

    Tough one to call...

Is there a minimum that you need to have before PSA will put you on the registary.

Not that I know of...one card is all you need to be on the registry.

Axtell, I am at 40% in my 78 Topps journey and what a BEAST it is. 726 cards in which I am trying at 9 or better. Have some really nice 8's in the set right now. A long road indeed. Good luck!

    Axtell,

Glad to be of help! Now if someone could only find a PSA 7 or better #270 Rico Carty 1971 baseball then I'll be at 100%.

Good luck on your set. The 1971 and 1972's are bears only partially because of their size. Personally I'm finished with mega sets. When I finish my 1971 set I'll be the only person on the registry to have 100% sets from 1971 through 1975, a collection I have no intention of extending backwards.

  • Machodoc- I'll keep an eye out for you. I need #697 Rickey Clark in PSA 7 or 8 to finish my set. I'll start my upgrading once I find this card. This is a bear of a set. The good news though is that there usually are quite a few cards available on Ebay for this set at any one time.

These big sets are quite a challenge - I can't imagine the day when I finish the ones I'm working on. I cut back to only four sets so I could focus, but this is going to take a while...congrats on your progress Axtell!
