And, with this response from an ebay buyer, I think I have

. . . sung my ebay selling swan song.

"Hello there, I received your card today and I must say I'm not happy. A plain small brown enevelope would've been fine to ship and I would've received it no problem. But because you placed it in a box and asked for delivery confirmation I had to go pick the thing up at the post office since it would've fit in my mailbox and they can't leave it at the door since it needs confirmation and they also couldnt put it in the parcel locker either. I realize that the grading is not your responsibility but I'm still not happy with it. After examining the card I was really suspect of its grade, so much so I had to check it on the PSA website. The top left corner is rounded, not sharp; the top right and bottom right corners are slightly frayed; turning over the card to the reverse indicates further fraying. I really have to think that the PSA graders had an off day or were doing lines of coke that day because I do not see how they came up with this as a PSA 10."

Here're the scans. I don't know if he's got a reason to complain about the card or not; I don't have any idea what PSA looks for or doesn't look for. Frankly, I don't care if he's unhappy now, since I sold him exactly what I described to him. He got a bargain, too, if the SMR prices have any validity. He hasn't left a neg yet, but I don't care about that, either. Actually, he doesn't even ask me to do anything in his email, just whines at me, but I suspect something more will be coming soon.

here it comes. card swap.opens yours and inserts his.hope you still have your photos.
  • email him back saying you specifically stated in your auctions you are sending the card with delivery confirmation. Tell him you sent it in a box for YOUR own good given that it is safer to send it in a box then in a flimsy "brown envelope." As far as the card itself...tell him you provided as best a scan you can provide...that PSA and not I graded the card...and i sold it as that. Dont come off as rude or defensive...merely counter his points and tell him that it's unfortunate that you are not happy with your purchase. Offer a full refund and that's that.

Screw the buyer. You don't owe him any sort of explanation.
If you did send it to him in a brown envelope (I think I know where this is going)
he would of definitely done the chargeback since he's unhappy with the card and say
he never received it. I'm assuming he paid with Paypal so you that's why you used the DC. I've never had
to pick up anything at the post office unless it required a signature (Registered, Signature Confirmation
Certified, and Express) or the parcel was just extremely large ie case. His carrier could of
left it on his door if it wasn't signature confirmation. It's situations like this where I'm glad
I don't leave FB first for buyers like this.

  • << <i>You don't owe him any sort of explanation. >>

you merely explain to him why you're in the right...offer a refund...end of story. dont ignore him...or email him death threats. just do the logical thing. if he gives you problem, neg him and move on. life is too short to be worried over something trivial like this..especially when it's over a mike schmidt 1982 fleer card.

I don't see any soft corners - the only thing soft is this guy's skull!!!!
    Good luck

Whatever you do, don't tell him he got a bargain compared to SMR. I don't think that is relevant to his issues. It would probably piss him off more.
  • SDavidSDavid Posts: 1,584 ✭✭
Just say: "I'm sorry you are unhappy with your purchase, but all sales on graded cards are final. PSA guarantees every card they grade. If you feel they misjudged this card, you may submit the card to them for a review."

Is it my computer, but that scan is bad, but I can not see anything wrong with the corners.

To quote Fletch, "excuse you?". I don't think it's PSA that's doing the lines of coke.

Pandrews you are such an antagonizer.

    That's why he's in a jail.
Perry, did you get the carton the cigs I sent you
    last week?

Mac, you're right about his email just sounding whiny and he doesn't ask or imply that he wants a refund. He's just stating his disbelief with the card grade. Unless you want to respond to him; I don't think you need to apologize for anything. You didn't grade the card, and you delivered what was advertised. If you just want to refund him, well then that a whole different scenerio.

Ah hell....I agree with Perry; just kick his ass! image

Thanks, guys for your advice and support. Things seem clearer after reading your posts and drinking X glasses of cheap red wine. I'm not going to respond to this guy (although I thought about emailing him to say that if I knew he was going to complain about the card, I wouldn't have needed to use delivery confirmation). He received exactly what he thought he was buying. It's not like I sold him a raw card and he doesn't like the condition. And I'd probably feel differently if he hadn't led off by griping that I had packaged the card too well for shipping and his life was ruined by driving over to the post office. Stone, you're right, giving up on ebay because of one knucklehead would be silly and I'm too old for that. Cheers, fellas, and thanks again. I have a lot of respect for the board members.

    As for the topic:

When I used to do coke (emphasis on the used to), I swore my eyesight was much better. It seemed I could see things that no mere human could see.

To quote the movie Airport "They bought their ticket, they knew what they were getting into, let'em crash."

Don't sweat it - the buyer was just PO'd about the inconvenience.

How about a link to your auction, or just stating the buyers ebay user name so that I (and others) can avoid this buyer by blocking his ID from bidding on auctions.
  • Tell him its a fresh grading and the grades were posted 4/20. HEHEHE

AGAIN... all you have to do is post on EVERY auction:

    "NO RETURNS ON GRADED CARDS."

With a big ol F'n PERIOD.

I totally disagree with the buyers remarks about the shipping but honestly that top left corner is a little below GEM MINT standards.

He's wrong for complaining to you but I do see his point about the grading.

    Mac,

E-mail the buyer and tell him that shipping graded cards securly in a box beats padded envelopes any day. Don't forget to mention that he should probably be cutting up some flowers in a meadow and singing songs with frogs instead of dabbling in something he knows nothing about. image
