It's hard enough to have a Top 10 Lincoln Set....UPDATED

....then Close to Perfect puts up a second set in the Lincoln Memorial Basic Set.....Close to Perfect II. My guess is that once he enters a 2004 in 69...he will have the number two spot as well?

Is it possible to enter your coins more than once in a set series....or are these duplicates that he owns?

    That's called "hoarding"...

and hoarding is a 2 point deduction. image

Edited to add: No, he's not using the same coin twice. It has to be dupes.

  • and he also added a third set at number 25

Do you think there will be any weighting of the set in the future?

I hope so. Coins from the 60's should get a lot more credit than ones from the 90's or esp 99-date. There are proven key dates in ms65 and higher, like 61-d,62-d,63-d, and 73-s. I've pretty much made up my own weighting, and have been thinking about posting it here, should I? I've also pretty much made up my own price guide too! Maybe I should post that.

I hope they change the weighting. Please post your weighting proposal. And your price guide. Or PM them to me, if you don't mind. I sort of have my own price guide, also, and would like to compare.

Welcome to the message boards Dan!

I'll post my suggested weighting on the boards, but probably won't post a price guide. Everyone remember RedCents and his buy/sell list or whatever? I don't why that would have caused so many problems but these types of things always seem to do that. However anyone is free to pm if they want my opinion of anything about the value/price/rarity of Lincoln Memorials.

I too would love to see your weighting system Jaime. When you think about it, it is sort of crazy that you receive the same amount of registry points for the tougher coins in the 60's/70's than you do for all coins in the 90's and 00's. PCGS seems to have done a pretty decent job of weighting the proof lincolns sets....and even the 1909-1958 circ. strike set......I see no reason why they cannot do the same for the Circ. Strike Memorials????

Wonder what will come first....the long set (09-Current) or the re-weighted Memorial Set?

What's wrong with dupes? I have four of the top 24 proof Jeff 1938-64 sets! image As for weighting, don't get me started ... in Jeffs, the 1950s DCAMs get 3 bonus points ... for 1938-42 (1 coin, mind you), they only get 2 ... image

    UPDATE:

Close to Perfect now has 3 sets in the top 17. Maybe the owner of these sets should put together 7 more sets and slam the door on all ten of the Top 10 spots?

I find it sort of comical...

    Jaime,

You should post your weighting of the Memorials. Some of these Memorials are as tough as any in the short set of Wheats. Take 68-P for Instance image.

    I did.

Actually I was thinking of making 68-p and 69-p weight 5's. Not sure if they should be as tough as 69-s. (Dang rolls of 69-s sell for $20+ for people gambling for a DDO). Also maybe 73-p should be weight 4.

    One of Jaime's last posts?

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

    I don't see a "Marie's" at #3?

I do see a "Kelly's Memorial" set and a "Kory's Lincolns" set along with Dan's #1 "Close to Perfect" set. Only thing I can figure is that they are named after, or belong to, his children??? Who knows.

It looks to me like Dan's 3 sets are going to be around for a long, long time. Unless of course he decides to sell!

A little birdie told me that these sets were purchased at the same time.
