1978 Topps wax case from Baseball Card Exchange

Steve Hart says he would do this for us at $8,600. Which is $1,000 lower than his website price. That is $537.50 per box which is $37.50 lower than the $575 he sells case fresh wax boxes for. And I don't think he budges off $575 for those buying one or two boxes only. So ...... are we serious here or are we just freaking nuts image

Also Steve says payment would have to be either a money order or a bank check because of the high price item. I am not really interested in heading this one up. My work sked has me all over my home state and I would dread having to be the one mailing out all of those boxes image

If this all falls apart, its all good. Plenty of fun to talk about!!!image

Those who are in: I suppose if we get 16 all the details can be worked out between us

Put me down for 1 box. Considering I'm still a noob around these parts, I figure you guys wouldn't trust me to handle the cash image

If I were "in" would I be sending my money straight to BBC or to one of you guys? I am confused on the mechanics of this deal. No offense to anyone but I would be more comfortable sending my money to BBC. Let me know as I may be in... assuming the wife says it's ok! image

Well I think the person buying the case would handle the money and shipping it out to everyone.I mean you are not going to send your money to BBE and make him ship out seperate boxes to everyone in on this group buy.Why should he have to keep track of all that.
As long as the person running it is trustworthy you shouldn't have anything to worry about it.

I may be in as well as soon as we figure out who will be handling the funds and shipping the boxes. I need to know that whoever is doing the recieving and shipping is not sifting the boxes.

A definately understood concern from anyone. Thoughts of mis-deeds and deception were not even .00000 % of my thoughts as this idea has been born. I and others were on the thought level of how fun this would be to rip the boxes live in a thread here with scans, jubilation at great pulls and disappointment at that badly OC Murray and Ryan and Molitor. At the top of this post I stated that I would rather not head up the money collection and disbursement of boxes. A big task. However, at this point I will do this if nobody else wishes the "burden" image . I will obviously have to take a day off from work to package and ship the boxes in a efficient manner. I have plenty of time to use from work so I'm game. With that said, if we don't get to 16 its all good. Lots of fun to talk about! image

Either way someone will have to pay postage. Why not just pay BBC $10 per box and have him ship? It's still a good deal for him because he sold the whole case at once. Don't get me wrong, it's not a dis-trust thing, it's just a practical issue that either way someone is paying postage to get a box to me in California, and the rest of you wherever you guys are. Plus we have the payment issue, or did I miss that above? Are we all sending checks to BBC? Anyway, I forgot to ask the wife but you guys have got me excited about the '78's. I sold almost all of my '78's back in '78 or '79 to Robert Kurtz for $2.50. I need to replenish my collection because that year is a glaring hole! So, count me in as 99% unless something drastic (i.e. my wife realizes what I am doing) changes before this deal is completed. Thanks for organizing.

sorry to be the first to bail out....especially after offering to help. i've got other priorities over the 78t wax box that need my attention (as of this a.m.). i hope you understand and i do apologize. going to miss the 78's action but i'll be watching the posts.

    enjoy

The first thing that needs to happen is 16 people. Without 16 its all just fun talk!
Secondly, if we do reach 16, we as crazy adults will work out the details. If all don't agree, then again, was fun to talk about!
Third, I can tell you that Steve won't be taking multiple checks OR shipping boxes out. He will expect one payment and one of us will have to do the dirty work!
Fourth, practical? image Is the thought of having this kind of fun practical?
