Rip/Hold 75 Mini Box?

I've been talking with BBC Steve about his 75 Mini Box (the GAI 8.5 box). We are working on a deal, as I love 75s, but wondered what you all thought. It's a pricey investment whether you rip or hold it and latest SMR is dropping hard for even PSA 9 stars.
I figured you really need to get at least 6 PSA 9s total out of Brett, Yount, Aaron 660/1, and Ryan. And, preferably several of Brett and Yount. Chances of 10s would seem very slim. 36 packs x 15 cards yields 540 cards - not even a chance for a full set.
Do you think 1400-1500 is fair? Would you rip or put away? I am sure I will rip, and won't that be a fun thread!
Appreciate your thoughts.

Just like anything else in life - it's a gamble, and the pricing markets in this one favor the house. If you rip - do it for fun. Odds are you won't make your money back.
It also appears as if your analysis did not include grading fees in making your money back.

I knew there was some connection between 75 packs and sex, but could never figure out what. Thanks for that analogy.

<< <i>Agreed, you have to do what feels right to you. If you want the enjoyment of opening all those packs and seeing what happens then go for it, but remember opening old packs is like sex once you blow your load the fun is all over.

Then comes the regret?

RIP GURU
Be careful with 75 minis. Multiple centering, tilt, short cut cards are a huge problem. I would enjoy ripping one myself but for that much money, I think there is safer wax to crack.
Your chances of a PSA 9 Brett, Yount, Ryan, or Aaron are slim...but about 800-1000 for each if you get a 9. But if you hit a 9 on lets say a Rose, Bench, or Schmidt....expect about 300 for the card. Commons go for cheap.
I think the odds are very much against you on the minis, but if you get a well cut box then you could do very well.

If I could afford it, I would consider buying something to open and see what I got. The thrill of the hunt - pulling a 9 or 10.
As was already said, PSA graded abounds on ebay - the future right now is in holding if making money or investing is involved.
Having said this - I still maintain: buy/collect for fun and enjoyment is the dividend. Anything else seems to involve too much work.

I think I need to be committed!!!!! I will anxiously await my box - and will be ripping it, of course.
Stay tuned for a fun thread end of next week. I need to get a scanner.

<< <i>Allright boys, I just paid for the 75 Mini Box from BBCExchange. He threw in a 82 Topps vending box at my asking. Nice guy, Steve Hart.

Looking forward Steve
Nice "present" - an 82 vending? Not bad! Hope you get a nice Rip RC while you commence to "rip" the wax!
Good luck!

I ripped a box from BBC and one from The Baseball Card Kid. Of the 360 cards in the Baseball Card Kid box I was able to grade 220 and received 54 PSA 9 (nq) cards back from PSA and 1 PSA 10. No card lower than a PSA 7. Most cards were PSA 8's. There is definately an off center/miscut problem that is commonly known to anyone dealing with these cards. The box from BBC yielded approx half the number of PSA 9's as the other box. It had about twice the number of off center cards as well. You maybe well advised by prior thread writer to open about 5 or 6 packs and then decide the general condition of the cards you see and decide if you want to rip the rest or sell packs individually? It could be that each box is either higher in centering or higher in miscuts? Others I've talked to feel this is true. One thing I will mention in hopes of getting a confirmation: In both my boxes, the Brett card showed up in the bottom row of packs in the box. Let me know if the same happens for you? Should you rip the whole box.....do it for the thrill....(and it is a thrill in my opinion You probably won't get your money back on resale.....unless you happen to get a box that yields an Aaron #1, Gibson Highlight #2, Brett, Yount, Ryan, Schmidt, Aaron #660, or a card that has no PSA 9's yet.....there are approx. 24 of these cards in the set that have not yielded any PSA 9 (nq); Also any star card in PSA 10, the rest of these in PSA 9 would get you a profit on this box. This is of course a heavy long shot to pull off. But that's why your buying the box and ripping them in addtion to the thrill it will give you Enjoy your moment and only submit the cards that you know will grade high. Start a raw set with the rest of the nicer cards by putting them into individual Card Savers. That's what I have done with mine. I probably submitted to many and thus I have a small collection of PSA 7's. But I was also on a quest for the #1 75 Topps Mini PSA Registered Set Happy trails my fellow 75 Topps Mini fan
Thanks for the insights and good wishes. Box is supposed to arrive Wed or Thurs. I will be updating the ripping process and will check the bottom packs for the Brett. I will say that this purchase is not done with deep analysis or thoughts of profit. As Stone says, "Collecting should be for fun, first". While I hope to land a ton of sweet cards, the idea is to relieve the opening of my first box as a kid (75 Reg series, not Mini), not to turn a profit.
I will indeed start a raw set and try to complete over time.
Stay tuned.
Steve
good luck and keep us posted.
