Looks great... There is a registration problem with that card. Even that 9 seems to have alittle outlining.

  • No, and I would not feel comfortable buying that card in a GAI holder. But the scan looks great

PSA would call that card "evid. trimming" ... only because all GAI cards are "evid. trimming" in Newport Beach.

I wonder why that is? Is it because PSA hates GAI? Bad blood from the past?
I have yet to hear one story where someone had success crossing over their GAI
card still holdered to the same grade in PSA.
  • I have two GAI Holdered cards at PSA right now, I will update on how they come out.
  • It's in a GAI holder....most likely trimmed.

    That is not true.

  • Koby....how can you say for sure? I could name dozens of high profile cards sitting in GAI 9 and 9.5 holders that are most likely trimmed or altered - the most glaring example being the '49 Bowman Paige.
  • Why would they not use PSA for the card? N162 after your post I looked hard at the scan. The card looks fantastic but you can see that the top corners look funny, they appear to "dive in"

I'm not fond of GAI, but I do not by any means think that their cards are trimmed. I do think the folks in Newport Beach are inclined to say they are. There's something about that holder that makes a PSA grader feel the card within is trimmed or otherwise unsuitable for crossing over. Crack and submit raw.
  • I agree with your unfair crossing bias theory. But would you take a chance cracking a hi $$ item as the 55 Roberto or 53 Willie???

  • so you are in effect saying PSA likes SGC better than GAI.
Now looking for a 1950 Bowman Baseball Box as pictured below.

    N162,
isn't this the card wayne varner has? are you implying that he trimmed it? wasn't the card sitting in a psa 9 holder before? I am sure we can agree the bump is a joke but to accuse varner of trimming it is a pretty steep accusation. am i thinking of the correct card? >>

PackCollector....Yes, it is Wayne Varner's card. I am in no way implying that he trimmed it...by all accounts, Wayne is a great and honest dealer. However, I have heard through the grapevine that at some point between being in a PSA 9 holder, and being in a GAI 9.5 holder, it was altered. I doubt Varner had any knowledge of the alteration.
