I've always stated that if players has access to steroids and other drugs "back in the day", they would surely take them. Assuming this pitcher is not lying, this is a bombshell. For all of you old farts out there who believe that baseball was clean "back in the day" can now wake up from your drunken stupor. Players have always looked and will continue to look for anything that provides a benefit.
Pitcher Comes Forward and states that steroid use was rampant during the 1960s and 1970s!!

If it was so prevalent, why did he wait 30 years to say anything? If it was such a big deal, why did he hide it until now?
He's just trying to capitalize on the notoriety.
Mega you are so gullible.

Yes, a book will come out of this and it will be as popular as Canseco's. I waiting in line now.

And just because it's popular makes it true? I am sure you railed against the Canseco book as pure folly...now you are saying because a book is going to be written, it must be true?
It must be sad to live in your world.

Yes, all the reports that Congress has written regarding the dangers of steroids must be true and I believe them all without a shadow of a doubt. When anyone writes a book, it is simply to inform the public and not put forth a personal agenda.

Anyone who thinks that the steroids these players might have been taking (and I find it dubious at best) are anywhere near the problem that human growth hormones and hormone therapy in general are, well, are just mistaken. Medical research done in the past 20 or 30 years, combining steroids with HGH and the like has made these players into behemoths today.
Where are the muscle bound freaks of the decades past like we see today, if steroids were such an integral part of the game?
For this guy to hold his tongue for so long just reeks of him attempting to cash in on the current steroid buzz. If he's such a legit source, why wait so long? If he's so credible, why did he wait until the height of the steroid buzz to drop this bombshell?
It just reeks of an opportunistic money grab, and those saying 'yep, I knew it' (i.e. megatron) are falling perfectly into his hands.
<< <i>This is nothing new. There have been rumors for years that Babe Ruth took horse steroids and of course that would have been in the 1920s. >>
......and it has been said that Abner Doubleday dipped a snuff mixture of powdered rhinoceros horn and the pituitary glands of specially raised spider monkeys. He claimed the practice was meant more for performance enhancement with Mrs. Doubleday....you know when he had to come to bat in the bedroom.
But Axtell does have a point in that these modern "steroids" have really only been "perfected" in recent years. And of course these things get more "perfected" all the time. At least these things are finally being banned and athletes tested for them. Better late than never although it was definitely waited too long for this testing.
It's all about the money - owners knew this stuff was happening but as long as enhanced performances drew more fans and put more money in the owner's pockets, nothing was going to be done. I don't think the banning is about any records. The banning is about people dying from this stuff at a young age.
One poster here has a picture of Walter Payton - not to get into an argument about this and who doesn't like Walter Payton - great player and great person...but Walter was definitely on steroids in my opinion and that was what killed him in my opinion. Walter won't be alone - there are gonna be lots of athletes from recent years dropping dead in their age 40's and 50's.
