Opinions on a Peru Sol

I have been looking to pick one of these up and came across this one on ebay. Comparing it to the other examples I have seen, there is something that doesn't look right about it. Although I don't know enough about the series to say for sure. Is this a counterfiet or does it look ok. Is this series frequently conterfeited?

Thanks

I've only seen a handful of these, but I think it's real.
What I like about this auction is this statement by the seller:

"All coins have an unconditional lifetime guarrante that they are genuine, uncleaned unless otherwise noted, and as described in the title. We are ANA Life members, have 99.99% feedback rating with over 11,000 + feedbacks."

Doesn't look like you could go too far wrong with a guarantee like that. However, I find no mention of a return policy, and shipping insurance is not offered.

I like the seller and have picked up many coins from them. I have never had a problem. Just give the coin a acetone bath, I have had a few with active PVC from the flips they were stored in.
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I must be comparing apples to oranges....did they change the relief/design on the later date coins.

    This one looks higher relief

There are two varieties as I recall, one with "Libertad" on column in incuse lettering and another with letters in relief. It's not a high relief design like a 1921 Peace $ or anything. That 1868 sol looks like an easy NET AU58 and without the rim dings would have gone MS62, IMHO. If you're not going to bid on it I might.

I have no idea as to the relief or the condition but it sure is a "beautiful design" image

There were 13 different types between 1864 and 1936 for this series. Most changes involved the lettering in legends and exergue, shield position and the relief of the design. The coin in the eBay auction looks like a Type II. I don't see any problems with it other than a few rim nicks. Looks like a decent AU. Should go for about $25-30 in that grade. However, the picture isn't so hot, so it could easily go quite a bit cheaper (of course the picture may be hiding problems).

It's worth sending to ANACS for $10. Wouldn't risk the cost of a bodybag at PCGS or NGC, though the dings are minor and it might squeek through. I already have a complete raw circulated date set... am working on a slabbed variety set in AU-MS. Only reason I'm bidding on it is because it doesn't appear hairlined and most early dates were harshly cleaned.
