The side of the card where the words are stating it is a reprint has definately been altered

I'm guessing you're talking about the brownish stripe down the right border at the bottom?

On the right side of the picture where the words "C.C.C. 1988 Reprint" usually are

"This card is in real good condition." Is that somewhere between G and VG?

Recieved this reply back from the person selling this auction--for those who care...

Thanks for everything i am not a card expert so when i get them they usally are numbered and or dated. This man who brought this card in seemed legit but i believe he bought the card off someone else who may have altered the card.

That card has been altered frequently. Check for any paper loss there on the card as if someone scraped it away. Again your card may be legit, but there are sooooo many fake mantle's on ebay that your card drew suspect because right where the problem is on your card is where it would have been dated "1988 Reprint". If you can't detect it yourself, I would add if i were you, that whomever wins this auction that you would refund 100% if they were not happy or thought is was fake. Believe me, Ebay is going after people that sell fake Mantles. I would add this to your description about the refund if not happy part. I have been a private collector for over 20 years in this hobby. I wish you the best of luck on future auctions.
Also you can join for free at www.psacard.com message board and load up a scan of your future cards if they are questionable and ask the board members for their input. This will save you alot of future grief. The PSA members are there to help novice to expert collectors in all matters.

Nice job of handling the situation with class. Hard to believe in this market, but it actually looks like in this case the seller was innocent and unknowingly trying to sell something for a scammer.....

Seller added this after my e-mail to him on his ebay auction. At least he has done the right thing, although he did get screwed by his own customer.

On May-03-05 at 09:46:34 PDT, seller added the following information:

I was told these home run cards were remade in the 80's and this might possibly be one of those cards. If you notice there is a mark in the right hand corner. On the remade cards that is were the dated was printed. I held this card up to some light to see if i could see a date but i didnt see anything. It is possible this could be one of the remakes if anyone knows of a way i can check to make sure it is authentic please email me and let me know. here is a link to a card from the series of the remakes.
