Pavano Vs. Vasquez

Again, I just have to bring this up again and ask the question--what the hell were the Yankees thinking trading Vasquez and then signing his former teamate who looked over-matched yet again today? I realize Javy still has a higher ERA, but within 2 weeks Pavano's will be over 5.00 and Javy will be among the league leaders yet again! Another bone-headed, botched deal by Cashman, who is very clearly on his way out. Ah, poor, poor Yankees...

Why the big love affair with Vasquez ?

Have you looked at this guys career E.R.A #'s ?

First of all his e.r.a this year is like 5.11 . So he's got a little ways to go before he's up with the leaders

Secondly if you look back at his e.r.a since 98, 5 out of the 8 years he's been over 4.00 and some of those years were way over 4.00 ( 6.06, 5.00, 4.91, 4.05 ) He did put up a couple nice e.r.a # years with Mont. but followed it up with a bit of a dissapointing season with the Yanks

Pavano will continue to clean his clock.
  • But Kobe, compared to Pavano he looks like Roger Clemens--I just have to scratch my head at that move? You trade a proven strike out pitcher with huge upside (he's still relatively young), for a guy who's had 1 good year in the majors? Maybe it will take Vasquez more than 2 weeks to break the top ten in ERA, but not much longer--the guy is a stud, take a look at Kevin Brown's first 8 years in the majors. It often takes pitchers a long time to develop. Javy's where he should be (the NL), and he will be a stud pitcher for years to come. Pavano on the other hand will be a .500 pitcher at absolute best, yet the Yankees let one go for the other?
Just seems like many of us would do alot better than Cashman with 200 million +++ to spend on a team.

Why spammy, you going to marry big unit? You've had his photo in your sig line for months and months now. A man crush huh?
  • I'm thinking about it Gemmy--if he only knew my name, ahhh!
And Axtell, I believe Gemmy and Randy would make a good pair as I've always heard Gemmy likes "big units." You are welcome to come up and stay with me in Canada Gemmy to marry him, where gay marriage is legal (or was, I don't even know now).
