A bit of checking showed the following for completed e-bay auctions. Pcgs sets in 65 averaged $600 and in 64 $350. High leafs in 66 went for 1250, in 65 averaged $325, and in 64 averaged $240. Low leafs in 66 went for $583, in 65 $299, in 64 averaged $160 and in 63 went for $169.
A NGC 67 set went for 1029, sets in 66 averaged $580, in 65 averaged $ 450, and in 64 averaged $360. High leafs in 66 went for $325 and in 63 $260. Low leafs in 66 went for $200 and in 65 $175.
ANACS sets in 66 averaged $460 and in 65 $350. High leafs in 66 went for $325 and in 65 $200. Low leafs in 65 averaged $150.
SEGS sets in ms69 averaged $375.
Raw sets were selling at $300 and less. High leafs started at $100 and went up. Low leafs started at $50 and went up.
What about the comet error? Familiar with that? You guys saw or want to see the error Wisconsin-D I found? I can send the pic to either you Joey or you David and you can post it if you like. (I'm still in the learning phase- don't really know how).
I took a nice pic of it. If you've noticed on a lot of Ds there seem to be a shiny, glazed over area right in the middle of the Reverse?? I may have one of the first ones that wasn't "patched up".
There is a very smooth crater right in that exact spot, almost as if a BB (as in BB Gun) got pressed into the planchet upon striking. Quite interesting.

This is very interesting:
PCGS has certified more low leafs than high leafs 1042 to 685
NGC has certified more high leaft than low leafs 1075 to 521
Finally, the average grade for these appears to be well over one point higher on the NGC coins. I find it hard to believe so many MS-67s were found in such a short period of time, and all were send to NGC. 490 made 67 at NGC and only one lonely coin attained that lofty grade with PCGS.
Has NGC been extremely loose on the "leaf" coins? Given that the "leaf" coins came out of rolls, I find it hard to believe the average quality of "leaf coins" is better than the Wis quarter population in general. NGC has certified less of the "regular" coins in 67 than either of the "leaf" varieties.
The highest I saw a PCGS MS64 low leaf sell for on eBay was $560.00. That's when I should have sold one of mine (bought two, cost me $125.00 each..) .. but I thought they'd keep going higher.. then they started to drop, so I listed one with a lavish description and got $306.00 for it. Thus, spent $250.00 for two of them (duplicates).. sold one of them for $306.00, take out all the fees, made all my money back, and the one I'm keeping is free..
I wonder who owns that lonely MS67.. can't even imagine what that would sell for..
I also noticed they showed up as a separate line listing in the PCGS online price guide, but as a single line, not separated between low and high leaf, and then a few weeks later they vanished.. not listed anymore.. don't know what that means, but I've seen it happen before.. after the first Buffalo Dollar slabbed PR70 DCAM sold on eBay a few years ago, it showed up in their price guide, then vanished a few weeks later.. then came back again..
As to rare or common, out of about 220 million Wisc-D quarters made, 3300 low and high leaf quarters total are in PCGS and NGC slabs.. NGC seems to grade them, on average, one point higher.. but there's no price increase as the PCGS slabs sell for more.. has a single solid roll of them been found yet??.. Have any rumors of a bag find been verified to be true??..
3300 in PCGS and NGC slabs, maybe a similar number raw, maybe six thousand or so discovered so far out of a mintage of 220 million.. if I've been keeping up with things.. rare??.. that's 0.000027% of the mintage.. I'd call that pretty rare.. maybe the next guy wouldn't..

the thing is, everyone says "less than 2000 submitted in each!" well - most non-modern coins have FAR fewer than that many submitted over the last 150 years. in my books those are not rare (not to say they're not interesting)
I find it very enlightening that the original operators of the hype machine surrounding these coins are nowhere to be seen in these threads any more. I guess once their inventory was depleted, their enthusiasm followed suit.

I would have to say not so........
Only 16 Wi. comet errors have been found, 6 of those were still in the hands of the shop where they were found. 10 were in my hands, I`ve donated one example to CONECA and collectors have 2 others.
I`m holding the rest and have no intentions of selling them. As for the shop with the 6 others, I have no idea what they plan to do. As a matter of fact, the articles written in Coin World and N.N. were sent in by CONECA. I only sent an example of the comet error to them and they did the rest on their own ( no hype machine here ). "In a recent column, noted numismatist Q. David Bowers writes the following: I suppose the more people write or talk about the 2004-D Wisconsin Quarter dollars with Extra Leaf High and Extra Leaf Low, the more people will say, "I gotta have one!" At the same time, as the price notches upward (as it seems to be doing), those who do not care for the variety will become more vocal - partly as a reason for not having to acquire one, part of acquisition psychology for a long time (check Aesop and his story about the dog and the grapes)."

The number of coins minted for a variety means nothing until compared to demand
for establishing a value.
Doesn't seem "common" to me.
I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
BINs look like you can get from the mid-$100s for the Low Leafs to the upper-$200s for the High leafs in PCGS MS64s.
Here's a warning parable for coin collectors...

<< <i>I don't know there DQ......how many were minted, total , of the Wis SHQ and then how many are of the extra leaf variety? Each is under 2000. >>
I respect your opinion but i also stand by mine
These are overhyped and will peak (if they're not peaked already) and be a loser as a long term investment.
But opinions are like LOSER JERK LAZY brothers-in-law, everyone has one.

If you look at the slab, it`s labeled as what ANAC`s attributed the error and not some catchy name.........
