What do you think about the Trade Dollar I won?

Looks ok? Did I bid too high?

The hits in the fields is probably why the AU grade.

Not sure I agree with the seller that it could be a 63, but I admit you can't grade off an image. The 78-S is the most common non-PF of the series, and is easily available in MS63 and also not so rare w/ PL characteristics.

I dont know go much that the hits would make it grade AU; if there's no "rubs" or wear on the coin, then the MS scale would be lower. For this coin to be a 58, there's has to be some kind of rub or wear. I graded a Stone Mountain from Paul Sarosi that I got from someone when I was a kid that was graded a 63, and it came back a 58 from PCGS. I couldnt understand why as I saw no wear on the coin, until I looked at it closer and say a disturbance of the luster on the eagle's chest. But aside from the grade, do you think I paid a fair price? I know PCGS's value scale is lower, but would the PL fields justify the higher price?

Comparing what you paid with hearitage auction prices it looks just about right - not too much and not too little. Looks like a good coin at a fair price to me.

    I like it!

Prolly AU as it states. I don't agree with the seller, but you did well.

Actually I would rather have a good, nice looking AU58 than an MS61 or 62. An MS61/62 nearly always look like dogs with hits, nicks, and scratches. An AU58 nearly always looks good, and it takes close inspection to tell that they have been circulated.

I agree. I also like it. It's probably AU but who cares.

Nice looking T $1. I've learned to ask questions about coins, and do some research, prior to purchase. This has saved me alot of grief.

Well, thanks for the replies. You're right about the 58s. I have a few bust halves that look nicer than alot of 63s. Lots of 58s have such small amounts of wear, that you barely can tell the difference from the 60+s, plus they're alot cheaper! (Sometimes)
