If the grading services were to start putting on slabs an explanation of the grade, which would be better:

(Let's say that the coin is slabbed as an MS65)

1) An explanation as to why the coin is NOT a 66

2) An explanation as to why the coin is better than a 64

3) Something else?

What do you think?

I have long advocated a higher level of service with a more detailed grade opinion that takes into account 6 things:
    Strike
    Luster
    Marks
    Wear
    Surface preservation
    Eye appeal

Each would have a verbal description as well as a number, and there would be a composite grade

Of course, this level of certification would take more than 30 seconds, and would cost more than a regular submission, so would only be "worth it" for 4 figure coins and higher; you wouldn't submit common date MS63 Morgans for this.

The slab would also be "special", not giant "regency slab" special but just of a higher quality and appearance.

PCGS, I am available as a consultant for this project, PM me!

I think it would REALLY open up the "liability" door as even MORE subjective issues would be in writing.

i think there are far too many attributions on the slab as it is

Think of the cracking out that would go on as people resubmitted for different explanations on the slab. image
