Coins for my Grandpa's 70th birthday

I've been looking at shows for some coins from 1935 to give my Grandpa for his 70th birthday this year. Theses are the ones I've bought so far and put in a holder for him. I don't like the cent too much but I have a while to finish looking. image

I hope he likes them. It's been fun looking for them. image

I wouldn't look for an uncirculated cent, 'cause that wouldn't "fit" into the set....

Are you also going to include the dollar, or maybe a nice silver commemorative? (what a word for someone from outside the USimage)

Well, I kind of only have so much to spend so I thought maybe the half through the cent set would be nicer than just one Peace dollar. image

Good idea, a dollar and silver commemorative will cost a lot more...

PS are they all "P" mint coins?, or did you combined the mints?
  • Combined but I don't remember which is which right now. image

Notlogical---Some day you will inherit these coins and they will be your most prized since they will remind you of your grandfather.

I like the silver coins. They all generally match in wear and color. Thats nice. I agree you need to find a different penny without any black gunk on the reverse. A nice VF well circulated cent will make that a wonderful gift that I'm sure he will enjoy immensly, especially if he knows you individually picked out the coins to put together the set just for him...instead of just buying it already made. We should all be so lucky when we're your grandfathers age.

If you had another 3-4 bucks, you could also get a 1935 series small size silver certfificate. Just a thought to kick around.

How long do you have to finish that set for your Grandfather? If you have a little time, I'll look for a 1935 Lincoln in better shape and you can have it for free. Maybe some of the other members will also donate something to help you out. As already questioned are all the coins from the same mint?
Next question is am I going nuts or are all the reverses tilted from the obverses. I knew Mercs were famous for that but didn't know that there so may other denominations with the same problem.
