1913 Buff question

Hi,

I noticed a lot of threads on the 1913 Buff referring to type 1 and type 2.

What is the difference?

I see the PCGS pop shows more T1 than T2 almost double the amount.

Does that make the T2 more pricey than the T1.

Also I just sent in a MS64 T2 OGH for regrade as the quarterly submission. I hope it will go 65.

In 1913, the year the Buffalo nickel was introduced, the Type I coin had the bison on a 'mound' on the reverse. The "FIVE CENTS" was really high relief (raised up) and wore down quickly after being in circulation. Later that same year, the mint redesigned the reverse to protect the "FIVE CENTS" by removing the 'mound' and placing the bison on what was termed a 'plain', esentially recessing the text.

Mintages are slightly less for type 2.
As for price, I don't know.

    Thanks, Ralph
