Do yourself a favor. Don't waste your time looking for Liberty $5's at the local coin shop. It is unlikely they will have what you are seeking. Instead, spend some time at a coin show (where there are lots of dealers and their inventories) and browse the David Lawrence Rare Coins (DLRC) website for Liberty $5's. They have a large selection in all price points, offer great service, and have return priviliges. image

These are also available in quantity on Teletrade and Heritage Numismatic Auctions. I've never bought anything from David Lawrence, but the buzz around here seems to be that they don't carry junk. Teletrade & Heritage have what they have -- it ranges from junk to great, just depends on who consigns what. If you're looking for common stuff in high AU, as I remember, you can do alright and your downside risk isn't large. Few neighborhood coin shops are likely to have much to help you. If they have any $5 libs they'll only have a few, and they will undoubtedly want more for them than you'd have to pay if you shop around. Your part of the country gets coin shows ranging from medium-small to quite large, many times yearly. I'd check a coin show calendar (find one by typing search terms 'coin show calendar' in Google), and go from there.

There's a small, mellow show I think 3rd Sunday of every month in Nashua, if I remember right. That might be a good place to start. Last time I went (September? October?) there were sellers of everything from overpriced, overgraded problem-laden cr*p to lovely, accurately graded type coins at fair prices. Just gotta poke around.

Hey, we're still waiting for your explanation on the thread about PCI coins here, and your comments on the eBay board.

Try attending the Nashua coin show, I want to say it's at the holiday inn the third Sunday of the month. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Lots of nice, respectable dealers on the New England circuit.
Or try Jim Guinesso at Derry Coin and Stamp. Very honest, no bull sort of dealer.

Nice of you to come out of the closet and post this. Let's see, you can say it took you five minutes on google to determine that PCI is a bad grading company, but I post mountains of evidence pertaining to the practices of ACG and I'm harassing them. I don't think a clearer case could be made here.

You just showed up here and you are the judge of what people want to hear? Please. Your agenda is clear, and don't plan on getting warm and fuzzy with anyone to collect data for your master.
