Pretty cool pickup!!! US Mint Dies & Collars

After reading Shanes -- just gotta buy something post last night he got me hunting and I found these!!!

A 1968/1969-S (cant really tell though) Jefferson and a Quarter Die/Collar set.

Whats cool is that I also got the collar from that actual die as well. While there might not be much design detail left, it still makes a rather cool paperweight/collectible.

There are more available if you are interested. Call Chris @ Northeast Numismatics 800.449.2646 for more info.

I think he has several sets of Nickels, Quarters and indivdual dies for Cents as well, but no collars.

Neat coin item. How do they deface the die? What do they use?

Too bad they use a torch to deface the dies, instead of a chisel or something. Didn't they use to use a chisel in the old days? Then you could see most of the design, but it would have gashes across it.

I have seen pictures of old Sitting Liberty coinage dies where they just Xed them. That seems sufficient to me.

  • They used to "X" them but folks were making off center strikes with them. I believe that many o/c indian cents were made this way.
