pulling auction off e-bay

I'm new to e-bay and I put some cards up for sale. No one has bid on one of them, I was asked if I would sell it direct and how much did I want for it. It's a 70 Munson rookie PSA 5. My question is would I be getting a bad e-bay rating if I sold it this way. I do have 3 people watching the card. What are your thoughts?
Thanks
Poolman

I would have the buyer go through the ebay process to protect you and him, in addition to not upsetting ebay (for circumventing their fees) or those watching the card.

    poolman,

You will find that if the item is not overpriced to begin with that many bids come in on the last day and especially at the last minute of most auctions.

Can you provide a link to any of your auctions? ...or any of the auction #'s?

Th experts here (including myself) can and will critique your auctions.

...........don't sell them off ebay yet.......

  • Heres a quick and easy example. A fella had on a group of 1967 Topps punchouts. He sold them offline for 500.00. The fella he sold them to turned around and sold them individually the following week for 1,200.00. Know your prices. Know what the item usually goes for. If its worth it to avoid the Ebay final value fees than do it. 100% of the time though the final result of an auction will always top an offline sale. Thats why people (buyers) want to do them in the first place....
  • 5190605547 is the # of the auction. My description is pretty weak. Also if anyone can give me better ideas on shipping. Great to have this board here for answers
  • Everything looks pretty good for someone posting thier first auctions. The zero feedback as a seller might hurt a little bit, but we've all started in the same place. Without using any other software and only using what is available on Ebay, the auctions are good. Its kinda tough to puff up PSA 5's and 6's without it sounding like a bunch of BS and hot air so the descriptions are short and to the point. Postage isnt bad for PSA cards if you are using the small priority boxes. Some people charge 12.00-15.00 for priority and make thier profit from shipping charges rather than the items they are trying to sell. Not bad for your first auctions...

I collect Vintage Cards, Commemorative Sets, and way too many vintage and modern player collections in Baseball (180 players), Football (175 players), and Basketball (87 players). Also have a Dallas Cowboy team collection.

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

When selling a PSA graded card, you do not need much of a description. The good scan that you have is good enough. (although the second scan could have been cropped better)

No feedback will hinder the auction some.........

....being a new EBAYER you are probably checking the auction every 15 minutes.......( a watched pot never boils)

    The bids will come.............

I see your 70 Ryan card has some bids....

PSA holders show up better when scanned with a black background. Scan it with the cover up and just crop it down to the holder.

  • Thanks for the help. I'll try the open cover on the scan. I have been checking every hour or so. I have a 69 mantle white letters PSA 3 Very good, what would you start the bidding at? I don't want to start too high and I'm not sure what the SMR would be.

I personally think you are wasting your time and money. I would only bid on a card from someone with such low feedback (in this case, zero) if they would deliver the card to me in person and they I paid them in cash. If you get bids I think it will be for substantially below fair market value. Good luck.
  • Did you check to see how many people are "watching" your item? This can be done in the my ebay->seller section I believe. That will help you determine to some effect what the interest level is on your auction. I also agree that the last hour or so is where people get lots of action on their item. good luck!

  • I had heard that just starting out would cause some concerns to some people. I asked the board a couple of months ago and I was told to sell the smaller $ amounts until I get established as an e-bay seller. That is what I'm trying to do. The cards I've put up are only the $20 - $50 range. Just started going through my cards a couple of months ago. If I lose a few dollars on these first ones that's OK as long as I get good feedback which I should. Thanks for everyone's feedback. I'm glad I looked at the board for a month or so before I started

The (0) feedback will hinder a bit like everyone says. You should`ve started out with about 50 or so cards that are not graded/vintage. Peyton Mannings, Favres, current rookies(Eli, Ben)to establish some feedbacks. Once you pass 20 or so feedbacks, then you should start listing the more valuable cards. In your description you should post something about yourself being new to eBay but collected for years. A little line here and there. Also, do you accept PayPal? People who have a PayPal account up and running are also considered when people bid.
  • I only collected when I was a kid. My cards are all 69, 70,71 and 72. I am just going to sell the extras that I have and keep the complete sets. I was thinking of putting out raw commons but with 0 feedback I thought people would be even more suspicious. That's why I sent into PSA. If I get a couple of sales then maybe some raw ones. Would like to get to 20 positive feedback before I put out my higher end cards. Thanks for your help

Look at the completed auctions - advanced searh, check box for completed listings only, enter description for the psa 70' munson. see what psa 5 have sold for in the past. if the offer is in this range then go for the off ebay sale. with zero feedback your card probably won't go for what the other psa 5 munson's have gone so i'd take his offer if it's decent.

if you go that route you could also change the munson listing to another card and do a buy it now for the next 3 days you have on the auction. this way you will be saving ebay fees on the munson card and still be able to get benefit from the fees you paid for the listing.

It helps when you're starting out to buy some things before you sell, then you have a little feedback to build on. Otherwise your initial sales are gonna be pretty lousy as people will be afraid to bid. As somebody said, the PayPal helps, because people will feel reassured that they can file a claim and get their money back if necessary.
  • I put some bids on your items. I'm not afraid of zero feed new sellers. I've had more problems with some of the huge feedback 5,000+ sellers than with brand new people.

The most common problem with some high feedback sellers are some who steal the insurance money (ship with no insurance) that I pay them for shipping.....really ticks me off. I pay it because if you get a good deal you want to be guaranteed of delivery.

The new sellers are often very attentive and appreciative of your business. Just my 2 cents.
