want a 1922 no D? Just clean it!

So, you want a 1922 Plain with the strong reverse but only have a normal 1922-D? No problem! Just clean it until that pesky D disappears.

fake 1922 plain

Bidders on ebay fall for this every time.

I'm sure it looks better in person because, as he said: "The scanner makes it look bad"

I don't think that's even a real cent. Looks like a cast copy that was brutally cleaned to hide the rough surfaces that would give it away.

I love it when a seller lists their location as "rare coins USA" or "see my other auctions." I translate that as "I don't even want you to know what state I'm in, because you're going to want to kill me when you get this fake coin in the mail, and I'm also dodging state sales taxes"

Ouch! Abe says, "Keep that Dremel away from me!"

Seller and buyer are both fools on something like this.

The scanner also makes the second "2" in the date look awfully bold...as well as the rest of the coin. I'm not aware of a '22-D "no D" variety that has everything on the coin bold and well-struck except for the mintmark.

  • I am amazed everytime I see someone spending hundreds of dollars on fake or altered coins on eBay. I hope that is a shill bidder and not a real buyer.

Slight glow where a D may have been erased. May even look worse in real life. If fake, and appears to be, not a bad job of erasing.

There is no, "if fake". The coin is a normal 1922-D with a removed D. The coin is lacking all the die characteristics of the 1922 no D.
