Well, thanks to someone I can't get mad at, I just screwed up on ebay

Some people hide their mistakes but I just had to say this one....since the person who caused it is someone I can't yell at or get angry at.....
I have a list of favorites on ebay....most here do.
I was looking at a board member's coins, like I often do.
I went to get a bid in, to keep it on my list, and then see about sniping it later.
Well, I am using a laptop right now, that is pretty sensitive on typing.
I have a 3 year old son.
I am sitting in a rocking-recliner.
I went to place a bid when my son started climbing over the chair to get in my lap and pulling my arm.
Well, all of a sudden, he is in my lap and I look at the screen and see "Congratulations. You have won with Buy It Now" or whatever the message is.
I didn't know what to think. I didn't want the coin at the BIN price as, it does look nice, but I am not ready to put that much down for that coin right now...as I said, I was going to keep it in my list with a low bid and then try sniping.
So, here is what I did, you can all tell me if I am screwed in the head or should do something else:
I emailed the seller and told him what happened, immediately, and offered to pay the fees associated.
I figured if he can't get fees back from ebay, then I will pay them.
Am I missing anything else that I should offer to do (aside from the full BIN)?
Suggestions?
Anyone else do something like this? I really can't blame/yell at my son as he doesn't understand what happened and he just wanted to be in daddy's lap........
Some days, the end of the day can't come soon enough......

Give the kid a hug
Hopefully the board member will understand and life will go on for the next snipe
I actually lost a coin once due to my kid kicking out the internet cable as I went to bid with 5 seconds left!!!!!!!!

So, I hugged him and told him I wasn't mad. He really didn't know what he was doing and it was a total fluke that his climbing up like that would make the touchpad hit just right (I did win $30 on last week's lottery, so I guess the odds were with me? :confused
As for retracting a bid...I didn't see that option with the BIN being used. It took 2 mouse clicks for that to happen but it did..... the first was me trying to use the touchpad for the normal bid, and that is when he started to grab me to climb up. So, it got clicked, and then somehow, the "Confirm bid" got hit...I never even saw that part come up....that was the totally freaky part....everything just fell into place
Solid....he already has coins...most of "mine" are his....he likes the Sacs, the Ikes, and the Kennedys the best so far. Some interest in the Morgans though.
I am just really....well, I don't even know how to describe the feeling.....it just isn't good. Sucks for me that this happened, and sucks for the seller. I like the seller and have bought from him in the past.
(It's Ira btw....a topnotch person in my view as he has great coins and has been great to buy from).

On the serious side, it is time to fess up. It takes two distinct actions to purchase on a buy it now, you hit the BIN first, then have to confirm your purchase. Unless the kid is a Bill Gates prodigy, this would be nearly impossible. Though you could probably back out with an email to the buyer, the right thing to do, is complete the deal.

Sorry Mark, I did fess up to what happened.....
It does take 2 distinct actions. That is why this was really weird.....they both had to happen, it is how they happened.
1) I went to bid on the coin (as I mentioned)
2) I was using a laptop with a touchpad (not the IBM eraser pointer)
3) I went for the BID and my son started grabbing my arm to get on me (I was sitting on a rocking-recliner...they move/swivel)
4) As I went to grab him up, fingers hit keyboard/laptop/touchpad. I know that happened because it happens all the time when I type in emails/word/etc and my cat jumps on me, etc.
5) He got on my lap and I moved the laptop out from both of us.
6) I got ready to type in numbers for a bid and I was looking at the "Congratulations" screen.
7) I got shocked/surprised/mad. I normally yell....even at myself.....my son could sense this and started looking super sad and ready to cry. I didn't yell. I told him it was all ok.
8) Don't know what else to tell you. That is what happened.
btw....I posted this because I did feel bad but also because I realize weird things can happen. If it would have been anything else....like me hitting it and then trying to back out for remorse, you can bet I sure wouldn't have posted anything. Sometimes, you have to laugh at what life does to you and, after it all happened, I knew this would be one of those things.....laughing at myself and the situation.
PS....Ira has responded to my mails and is trying to get ebay to refund his FVF. If they don't, I will pay that as well as the listing fees. So, I will 100%+ pay any/all fees he incurred from this incident.

BIN's are not completed with falling keyboards IMO.
Wow, $700. That little tyke is a big spender...
if the enter key is pressed and held down it will basically "confirm" any default buttons that appear on the screen.
BIN and confirm are default buttons (if you have your mouse properties set up this way, which most people probably do)
Let us know what Ira says ..................

As I said, many stars were aligned for this to happen....but, while it certainly looks sweet, I can't spend that amount for that coin right now...which was why I was going to try a lower bid.
But, Ira has been extremely cool and I will refund his fees (he said something like $12.xx), and I will send him $20 (cover the fees, paypal, and buy him a cup of java or something for the problem that was caused).
