Been collecting for a year - trying to finish gold

I have been collecting for the past year and am finishing up my type set with the dollars - finally landed a flowing hair and seated dollar. I am going to start to work on the higher end gold. Should I wait until the Whitman show in Georgia next month or is the pricing about the same at dealers also. I have only been to one show before when I first started collecting. Thanks for any advice - enjoy reading the threads!

If I understand correctly, you are shopping for $1 gold coins for a type set. A large regional coin show, like the Atlanta show, would be an excellent opportunity. I am not sure if the national dealers will be there, but it is likely that Al Adams (Gold Rush Gallery) will be there. He is a gold specialist, trustworthy dealer, and personal friend, and I am sure that he would be happy to help you out. Stop by his table and introduce yourself. If you are really lucky, board member, "Dahlonega", will also be there.
Good luck and keep us posted.
<higher end gold> can mean a lot of things. It might be a good idea to look
at a lot of coins before settling on a particular grade level. You will see much
more excitement generated around here by a nice AU58 type coin than by
most 60-61s. Even though uncs have a "comfortable" delineation and cost more,
people realize they are usually harder to find and often better looking.
So, I would look at a bunch of coins in person before deciding what grade to pursue.
Shifting your focus once you have acquired a number of "higher end gold" pieces
can be expensive.
Good luck and be prepared to have pictures for us!
