Is it rude to tell an ebay seller their picture is wrong?

Hello, I ran into some auctions that were advertising 3 cent silver and they were 3 cent nickels so I politely sent a message to the seller. I assumed this was an easy mistake but look at this one

3 cent silver

Do you think if I send another message the seller will think that I am being difficult?

I do it all the time and the sellers are usually thankful and send me a message saying so. No one has ever told me to mind my own business, I simply inform them they have their picture URLs mixed up.

I have done this in the past and the sellers are usually grateful.

    Same here.
  • Ditto....I had a listing on Ebay once and had a guy email me and tell me my item was listed wrong and I was very thankful for the information and thanked him for it. image Helps to know if you don't because then you can quit looking stupid faster image

Not only have I done it, but usually they list it as a question which they then answer in order to provide the correction to their auction info.

The seller's listing says 3 cent silver, but the picture is a Morgan Dollar. He ended one listing early then re listed with the picture and description. I can understand making a mistake posting a picture, but making the same mistake twice in a row is pretty bad.

This auction is for the US 1860 3 cent coin-pictured- circulated. If you collect silver dollars, don't miss out in adding this to your collection

Writing this person would probaly help them, probably sells lots of stuff and has cut and paste a few too many times

    That's my two cents.

  • I always appreciate hearing about any and all errors I've made in my listings. However if a seller has lots of auctions that have glaring errors all at the same time I think just one message should be enough.

Recently someone let me know that a Morgan I listed as 1880 didn't match the photo 1880-S. I appreciated the info and changed the typo in the title.

I saw an auction for a half-dime but what they posted was a picture of a dime. I politely asked which half of the dime was up for auction. The reply came "buyer's choice".

I have every now and then put the wrong picture on when I was in a hurry with my listings. This answer is very simple. Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, Yes, and Yes. I always thank whoever points one out to me. If they don't thank you, they're probably scum trying to pull a fast one anyway.

I have posted the wrong pic with a listing on 2 occaisions. A prospective bidder alerted me to my mistake. I told them thank you and if they are the successful bidder then shipping is free. They never were.

I see no problem with correcting a seller. In my opinion it keeps them from having to deal with returns, helps bring more potential bidders to their auction, etc. I wouldn't mind at all if a person corrected me.

  • on standing liberty quarters i have seen alot of different descriptions. Just because Miss Liberty has a head doesnt mean full head. the M on the obverse isnt the mint mark. i am sure most of you professionals have seen this and alot more. i do inform the people and back it up by the standards that i learned being a member of the slq club when it was going several years ago. Good advice if taken open minded should be a benefit!!
