eBay Feature: Contingent Feedback

Wouldn't it be great if eBay just recognized that many people are afraid to be the first one to leave positive feedback, since then the other party can leave a neg with impunity? What would it be like if they introduced a contigent feedback feature, so that as a buyer I could leave positive feedback for the seller, and have my feedback kept pending until the seller replies in turn. Once both parties have had a chance to review the other feedback, both would be posted.

I know that's not the way the feedback system was intended to work, and possibly it's just encouraging further misuse of the system. But the bottom line is that many eBayers are not willing to take a chance and leave the first feedback. At least this would encourage greater use of the feedback system. Of course, it could just exacerbate the problem. What do you think?
I heard they were making a French version of Medal of Honor. I wonder how many hotkeys it'll have for "surrender."

Don't you mean "negative feedback"? I don't care about leaving postive feedback, but you always worry about a retaliatory neg if leaving negative feedback.

  • I always wait until the other party posts a pos. before I post my pos. I've heard several other people here say they do too: I've heard too many horror stories about a seller leaving feedback right after the buyer pays, then getting neg'd later after the item was shipped. It could work in the reverse too if you are a buyer and leave feedback first and the seller decides he doesn't like you or something and leaves you a neg...the problem is once you leave feedback that's it...the other person can say whatever they want with impunity.

Playerauctions has a better system: at any time you can edit your feedback, including changing a neg to a pos (or vice versa). I prefer a system like that. But then SquareTrade wouldn't make all that money on feedback retractions image

  • That's a pretty darn good idea, you should really pass that on to eBay. I really don't see how this could be abused, and would solve a few problems, like, for sellers, they can now leave positive feedback upon payment and not have to worry about an (undeserved) neg out of nowhere with no chance to respond - they'd be able to respond now.

Frankly, I really don't care about eBay feedback that much. I leave positives when I feel like it, negatives when warranted. I take what I get; doesn't really bug me too much.

I just got my first neg because I neged the buyer . After 35 day no response or payment. I don't think they should be able to come back at you with a neg when you have done nothing to warrent it. SPITE

  • Asa seller I leave Psoitive feedback as soon as the money arrives, checks clear, whatever. As a buyer, I wait until I get the item and then post. I still have some buyers who never bothered to post feedback for me. They may one day, but, I'm not to worried about it.

I always leave positive feedback when a buyer sends the money and leave positive feedback when the item arrives. Serveral times I have worked out problems before feedback is left, saving a negative. Just once did I get a neutral when payment took to long on my part. However, she sent very confusing emails about the the three different auctions I won. I asked for one total and never got ONE, but three seperate totals. I paid for two and not the third and she left me neutral feedback as a slow pay. She was also new to Ebay, 10 positive feedback when I bought from her.

I guess what I am saying is work it out by email or phone before you leave the feedback if there is an issue.
