I ordered a couple 2 roll sets from the mint. Does anyone know if these were also minted for regualr circulation? The banks don't have them as far as I know.
<< <i>...They have not been put in circulation since 2001, if memory serves. >>
I thought that was the last regular release also. They still have 2001 mint rolls and bags for sale, that is why I thought 2005's would also be released for circulation. They also have this quote in the description "These rolls feature Kennedy half dollars in circulating quality and are struck on our main production floors at the United States Mint at Philadelphia and Denver."
Kore, the reason for that text is because they are minted the same way as circulating coinage. For all intents and purposes, that is what they are. They aren't proofs, they aren't even "mint set" coins. The only difference is the mint has kept them inhouse to sell to collectors and not put out into the stream of banks.
I bought the 2004 (and 2001) bags from the mint. You pay "less" of a premium but you pay more overall. I still have most of them in my closet...let me know if you need any of either year but also, my advice, is to buy the rolls (1 or 2 or whatever) if you don't know what you would do with the rest.
I had the same thoughts you did, which is why I bought the bags. I wish I had just bought the rolls now.

Hey that would be cool! If you would set me up with a roll from each year that would be great. What mint do you have? I will PM you in a minute.
Yeah, you may be right. 200 halves are a lot to hold on to. I was hoping to slab a few and make a couple $'s otherwise I would just sit on them.

That's what I used to think but now that's thougher than you think. Grading fees are high and the 1995-2004's in high grade are common. Best stick with the eighties. A lot of the coins were crap at that time. High grades can bring some nice money!

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment
Thanks again.
