stating that my 1880 P is a new vam officially Vam 48 Double Die Gouge. This is a joint discovery that I share with Terry Forfa (Mad4Morgans). What a perfect start to a day!!!!

Steve27 that is my thought also but since I'm not a teenager any more don't know if I have the years left to wait for that to happen.Still am quite excited to just have found one our 15 minutes of numismatic fame. Now the search will be on to find one that is truly rare and valuable. Leroy listed this one as a I-3, R-5

From the photo, that's an impressive looking die gouge. Obverse gouges are also much scarcer than reverse ones.

Excellent! I'll list it in the next issue of the VAM-E, the official electronic communique of the Society of Silver Dollar Collectors, due out Saturday evening. If you don't already subscribe, send an e-mail to vam-e(at)varslab.com. As for listing it as a discovery coin, ANACS and SEGS will do that today (and so will I if you want it in an ungraded VAMSlab so that you can avoid the angst of wondering how if it will grade favorably). Even if PCGS starts recognizing VAMs, they probably won't start with all of them, only the ones that can be put into manageable registry sets.
