Top-100 Morgans down to Top-97?? Micro O - Any suggestions to fill a possible void??

imageWith the recent article from PCGS about the Micro "o" Morgan Dollars being (allegedly) counterfeit, should these three coins be removed from the TOP-100 List and be replaced by three others??

PCGS MICRO "o" ARTICLE

And if so, what coins would you recommend as new Top-100 candidates??

If I only had a dollar for every VAM I have...err...nevermind...I do!! image

To get a handle on the scope of the problem I tried to check out the NGC population on these three coins. When accessing their online census I could not find the coins and I know they were there in the past. It seems they have already pulled them from their census which would at least suggest agreement with the PCGS determination. Anyone know anything further about how NGC or ANACS is handling this?

NGC pulled the Micro O's and declared them counterfeit a while back (1 year+++). No news from ANACS that I'm aware of.

But then you will need to replace those.

It is very likely these coins will remain very collectible, just as many of the documented counterfeits of other series, I.e, the Omega gold., I suspect they will not be removed any time soon.

I was thinking about this last night...and it is true...counterfeit or not...these have proved to be very rare and difficult to locate over the years. They have been known in collecting circles for several decades, have been highly sought after for at least the last 10 years by variety collectors, yet they remain extremely difficult to find. The prices on those not slabbed will probably adjust down...as everyone knows that can't be slabbed now. But those that are already slabbed...may be kind of fun to own. We are after all, talking about less than 100 coins for the 3 years.

I'll continue to search for them probably even more so now. This just made them more interesting to me. image

GREAT POINTS!! They certainly have peaked my interest!! Those that have been previously slabbed (especially in PCGS slabs) will be that more collectible as the supply evaporates.

image just a thought...could they still be slabbed by the grading services as "counterfeit"?? They still are rare!!

One obvious choice to me is the 1899-O Micro O.
