Home U.S. Coin Forum

Windows XP pro users.....

Might be XP home also..or Win 2K..I don't know. When surfing e-bay and coin sites if you right click on the picture a box comes up and a choice is, "refresh picture with full quality" or something like that. Anyway the picture(esp. on E-bay gets much better). I missed it for like 2 years. Makes a big difference.

Edited to add text. Hit the wrong button. My apologies.

  • I think he was trying to tout a feature that can help you view pictures better. I think this could come in handy especially if you are buying coins based on picture only.

  • I think Kurt may be referring to a feature that I believe is new in Internet Explorer 6.

By default (I think), IE6 will automatically resize images smaller to make them fit
in the current window size you have open. For instance, if you have a window
open that is 800x600 pixels, and you try to view an image of a coin that is 900x900
pixels, IE6 will automatically downsize the image to 600x600 in order to fit your window,
and you won't see the full resolution.

The alternative is to display the image full-size and you have to scroll your window
to see all of the image. This may be the right-click option he was referring to.

Here's where you find the setting:

    Click on Tools, Internet options

Click on the Advanced tab at the top

Under Multimedia, there is an option "Enable Automatic Image Resizing"

If this is checked, IE will potentially resize images smaller to fit your window,
thus losing resolution. When I set IE6 this way, and hold the mouse cursor
over the image, a small box appears in the lower right with blue arrows pointing
out to the four corners. By clicking this, the image is expanded to fullsize.

If this is unchecked, the images will be automatically displayed full-size, though
you may need to scroll your window to see them.

    I leave mine unchecked.

    Good thread!

    Ken

Edited to add: Here is a link to a large photo (1279 x 1825 pixels) in order to check your setttings.

I commend Kurt4 for a great post and I think this is a perfectly appropriate topic for the US coin forum. Any ideas to make us use our computers more efficiently when it comes to doing things with coins does belong on the US coin forum.

    Thanks again!

  • Thanks for pointing this out! I never did like it when images were shrunk to fit but never figured out that I could change things.

shame on you for dissing this guy.. this post is at LEAST forum related given the amount of EBAY crap that goes on here and it's by proxy coin related.

you're a jerk for slamming a newbie trying to help us out.

THANKS for the tip, i'll be using it and keep on posting.

Thanks folks, glad you found it useful. Just to clarify...After I typed the title I hit the enter key. So it did come up with no text. It took about 2 minutes for me to fix this. Imagine my surprise when there was 2-3 posts already. Sorry for the confusion.

Russ is correct. When I saw the post, there was no text. The original post was made at 12:55, I replied at 12:58, and the original post was edited at 1:07. Pay attention to the time stamps.

Sounds like you have one of those "web accelerator" programs. One of the ways they achieve that "5x faster" speed is to lower the quality of the images. When you right click on the image you can override.

I just love it when people show up and want to dictate how this board is going to run.

When I saw the post there was no text and no mention of coins in the title.

Let me see if I have this right, a query to an OP about whether the thread is on topic here is condescending?

Another tid bit,, Firefox has a good extention called ''Image resizer'' I think, and with that you can do a lot. Need to see a detail just rt/clk and pick your zoom, lighting, whatever, among other things.
Need something designed and 3D printed?
  • K6AZ:

How many posts here don't have "coins" in the title? I would say quite a few....

This one was jumped on almost immediately after the author accidently posted before he completed.

I see this type of issue on every board that I frequent. I made my post last evening in support of the author and I make no apologies for it. Like I said...If someone has issue with what I post PM me.

    SaintGuru:

I have only been a member of this little community of numismatic enthusiasts since January. As a newbie collector I have learned quite a bit of knowledge from the many guru's on here.

Let me ask you a question--Based on your reply it would seem that my tenure on this board may be in jeopardy? May I ask why? I don't have 8000+ posts but aren't my questions or thoughts with regards to coinage or other topics as valid as yours?

As for my Avatar....I use it on other boards I am a member of as well. I saw no one here using it. What are you trying to say??

IN any event...Just want to thank everyone for the information that they provide here...be it Coinage, Digital Cameras or Windows XP.

Questions? Comments? Please PM me. I am open for all discussion...image

    Regards,

    Tom
