Some of you on here may have done business with him so i thought i'd post this to announce that the esteemed dealer Colin Cooke has died, he passed away last thursday in hospital.
As far as i am aware the business has been taken over by his associates but as a long standing member of the British coin community, who knew probably more about farthings than anyone, he will be sadly missed.
Sylvester.

The world expert on farthings by a very long way, the greatest collection of
farthings ever assembled.
My last conversation with Colin was a few Months back. I had visited him the day
before to talk about William and Mary farthings.
I also did some trades with him of some of my duplicates - I was happy with what he had offered.
He rang me the next day - in his haste at looking at my coins (it was 11.00pm) by then,
he had missed some varieties. He decided that he had underpaid me by £200.
Would I like a refund or a credit?
I will miss him

He was a great bloke.
Usually i dealt with his associates but he helped me out alot last year when i bought a Charles II tin farthing with edge corrosion from a different dealer. The date was illegible and i needed confirmation on whether it was 1684 or the extremely rare 1685 (i reckoned it'd be 1684 and it was), but he gave me alot of help on the die varities that would help to distinguish between the two. He had also invited me to go and see him in Manchester to look more closely at the coins he had if it would help. As it happened i didn't have the time to do so due to other commitments, but on the few occasions when i dealt with him via the web i knew for sure he loved the hobby and he was one hell of a great guy.
I 'd go so far to say he was untouchable on farthings, he knew them like the back of his hand.

Thank you for letting us know about Colin.
I enjoyed my occasional email exhanges with him. He was always pleasant and of course very knowledgeable. He was truly a stand out in the coin business, British or otherwise. I am sure he trained his associates well.
I have spoken to his sister (for the first time) she seemed to be as well as you could expect.
His family are sorting things out at his home (also place of business).
Neil Paisley et al then seem to be back at work on Tuesday of next week.
