Got this in change the other day. Thought it was Chinese but was told it might be Korean.

Thanks

  • South Korean 100 won (about 10c U.S.), featuring Admiral Yi Soon-Shin (1545-98), mintage 60 million, collector value about .25 at best. You might also try a library for a copy of the Standard Catalog of World Coins for pictures, values and lots more interesting info.

This design was minted from 1970 to 1982 but they are still common in circulation here in the old country. In 1983 the design was modified. I kinda like this one over the newer one even though they are not really all that different.
  • thanks for the info. I'm obviously not a darksider but my kids liked the fact that we got this coin in change from a burger joint and we were curious as to its origin.

I've got a couple of those myself and I've always wondered what they were. Now I know, thanks. . . image
