Is it wrong to bid this way ?

I was talking to a friend of mine and he told me that if a he is bidding on an item and another bidder keeps outbidding him he will get so uoset he will just bid the item up and then stop. just to drive up the other bidder. I explained that he is taking a chance since he might just become the high bidder again. He said well if thats the case he will buy it, but he thinks it's "fun " just to bid things up and then stop.

It made me annoyed and a little angry. So I gave him my side and changed the subject.

Live auction I assume. I think someone will do the same to him when he really wants a particular coin. What goes around comes around....

If the only reason is to make the competitor pay higher, it's pretty crappy. Then again, doing this, there's a good chance that they will eventually be stuck with the coin for a lot more than they wanted to pay, which might go a long way toward curing that behavior.

As long he pays up if he wins. Thats what auctions are, kind of a gamble. We sure wouldnt have a problem with it if it was our coin that they were doing it to.

Change in History....I couldn't have said it better! You are so right and hopefully this person will see it when it happens to him and open his eyes. If I want something I just quit bidding until right at the very end and in the last 40 seconds or so I try to get the high bid. Sometimes I win and sometimes I don't . Part of the play I suppose.

Good Point also makes a good point (LOL) though! If it were an item belonging to me I sure would be happy with the high end price
