Other Than KEETS, Anyone Here Collect Medals and the Such?

braddickbraddick Posts: 24,820 ✭✭✭✭✭
I used to enjoy exchanging PM's with Keets regarding the various Medals we would pick up. He's LINKED me with a lot of great information about So-Called dollars and the like.

I recently had this one arrive: eBay LINK Medal and would love to get his opinion and more information about it.

Is there anyone else who enjoys and collects these here?

There's probably nothing I can tell you about this medal that you don't already know.

These were aboard the first ship to cross through the Panama Canal on Aug. 3, 1914.
There were 50,000 pieces consecutively numbered. It is made of bronze.

This should be a very common medal but I do not often see it and haven't been able
to get one at a good price so it's far tougher than its mintage would indicate.

I like to collect ANA medals. Just won one yesterday on ebay#03970653849, three coin set. I try to get the silver ones.

Pat, Main Line Coin is a great guy to deal with and his son is a PCGS grader!

I liked this one as it appears to have FN15 wear. It must have been someone's good luck charm. It arrived a couple of days ago. I've done a google search and haven't hit upon anything outside of what's been talked about in the auction.

As stated, with a mintage of 50,000 (rather high, for a medal) I'd think more of these should be around, but I don't see them turn up much.
I think that alone is interesting.

I like Pan Pac and Cal Pac medals. Come to think of it, I am interested in a number with California themes. On the darkside, I collect George V medals.

Is life so dear, or peace so sweet, as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery?
