Thinking about a big eBay purchase for me. How is ANACS on grading Large Cents?

Well its a big buy for me anyway.
I'm thinking about buying this coin & crossing it over to PCGS to add to my collection.
I like the looks of the coin but have never crossed a coin before.
Your opinions will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

I don't know how tough ANACS is on large cents, but I think that coin is a MS-63. The mark on the neck is allowable in that grade. Randal Hoard maybe?

    Exactly!
I've been looking for a nice 1818 with the die crack for a while but just cant seem to find a nice one in a PCGS holder.

I agree that is a very good looking coin. I would not care if it crossed or not. If it were me I'd either crack it out and put it in my Dansco or leave it in the ANACS holder.

If I were you, I'd just PM me a price and not worry about cracking it image

If your purpose for buying it is to cross it, skip it. No use in spending the time and $ and facing the potential frustration in trying to beat the odds - it's as simple as that.image

ANACS in the past year or so has been tuff on early copper. Id say it probably has a good chance to holder at the same grade , but not thru xover. Break out and submit raw for an unbiased opinion!!

    I like it!

I agree with Coinguy1. If you want the coin in the PCGS holder, buy it that way and save yourself the torture.

I've always been satisfied with ANACS grading, but as other wise sages have said, if you want a PCGS coin, buy one - especially when it's a rather common coin like a Randall Hoard coin.

1st of all, dispense w/ all the jibber jabber about crossing this holder to that holder, blah blah blah. your wasting an awful lot of your valuable time & effort on worrying about that cr@p.

now to the COIN, which is what you should be talking about. it's an above-average for commercial ms-63 common randall coin, BUT... if it were me, i'd pass. why? because you should be able to find 1 w/ more red on it then that, for a minimal upgrade in price. furthermore, if you really want a nice randall, you should reconsider - & take a look at the 1820s. better produced, less $$$ to get a nicer coin. finally, the reason you probably aren't finding many in pcgs holders is because most folks who would buy a coin like that have moved beyond needing plastic tombs for their coins. randall coins are a known commodity, you don't need plastic standing between you & your enjoyment of THE COIN.

@ some point, try & get past the slab hangup. classic coins like these coins are deserving of a better resting place then a stupid little piece of plastic.
