can anyone tell me how ntc coin gradeing rate in gradeing coin ,like bad fair good ect i was woulding because i have bot some coins graded by them thank you for your help
You had better know how to grade, know how to detect counterfeits, and have a good grasp on coins in general if your purchasing these TPG graded coins. Be careful!!!!!!!!!!
Most of the coins graded by them do not make the current market accepted grading standards the rest of the industry uses, but their are exceptions. Far and few between, but some folks do send them nicer coins becuase its a low cost service and turn around is quick. And they sell to uneducated buyers who think that just becuase it is slabbed, it must be correctly graded, and okay.
A local dealer here swears by them, he sends them approx 25 coins a month. Some of them he sends are actually nice, but they end up grading so strong that they are mostly untouchable for the knowledgeable buyer. At this point, they are entombed for life. A few recent examples: an 1853 Gold $ that came in locally, Beautiful coin and fully lusterous. A Highend ms-64 coin if submitted to PCGS. I tried to buy it prior to it being submitted to NTC. It came back graded Ms-67 and the owner now thinks that it is worth 15k becuase its a 67? Another coin was a 1906 Indian Head cent. Looked possibly questionable color, maybe by luck a 63rb at PCGS, Came back graded MS-66Rd. The owner now thinks he has a 1000.00 coin. By the way the coins are still in his inventory where I expect they stay for many years down the road, unless some unfortunate collector with limited knowledge buys them.
I've only purchased one ntc graded coin as an experiment, and I wasn't happy with the quality- most around here don't have any interest in buying ntc coins, unless they have it in hand and can personally evaluate grade and originality....
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
I purchased a 1914-s $20 gold, that I thought looked ok for a good price in a NTC MS-64 holder. I cracked it and it crossed at MS-63 PCGS. I was expecting it to be MS-62, maybe 63, so I was happy.
Disregard the NTC slab "grade opinion", consider the coin raw, take into account that you can't see the edges, and consider the price. Then, if you still like the coin, buy it.
I have bought two NTC coins and am happy with both, one was an 1812 cent and one was an 1805/4 half dollar.
Both were overgraded by one full grade by NTC, but both were obtained for a price Two full grades below the slab grade.
Thank you, simpleminded bias against the third tier! Likewise PCI, there are still some auction bargains out there.
