"Athiest" 2005 buff nickel "IN GOD WE RUST" better image update

Sorry for the poor image, it's not mine. I know as well as you do that strike thru's are pretty darn common and the value of them is usually in the cents and not in the dollars. Here is an interesting one though that one of our board members nephews owns. I think it's pretty cool. Much cooler then the "speared buffalo" and probably a lot less of them!

  • I have yet to see any of these new nickels in person so I don't know if they all look this way or not ..... but doesn't it look like poor old Tom is crying?

  • The quality of the 05-D Jeffs will make it tough to make high grades. That`s if the rolls of D mint nickels I`ve searched are any indication but, they do make for interesting finds.

The missing T nickel is pretty cool.........I hope to find something in the last couple of rolls I have left to look at.image

    Cool.....a "rusty" nickel!
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

    The name is LEE!

Its a filled die error I believe. Not too uncommon though.

I don't think so. This one is on it's way to my house to take a better look at and sell for him. Do you remember the selling price of the specimen you saw on ebay?
  • I see a lot of die fill errors. I got a box and searched about 20 rolls so far, plus about 20 additional rolls received from different banks. I have a series of die fill errors that the worst one covers the word TRUST all together, only reads "IN GOD WE". I returned my scanner didn't like the pics. I will have to borrow a camera so I can post images.

BTW: A friend came from Dallas today and gave me a roll of Bisons she had saved for me, just about to open. image

I'm on dial up, nuff said!

  • One roll left to search......did find a couple of weakly struck IV in FIVE examples. Other then that maybe 2 that could grade ms65.

  • I like it.

I got my two rolls of Buffalo nickels allotted from the bank and went through them last night. I think it's the obverse design that really makes any sort of scratch show up. I picked out the better of the coins and will send the rest on their way into circulation....
Some call it an accumulation not a collection

  • A bump
I searched my last roll and nothing.

    Neat.

I searched my first two rolls last night.

    - I have a few above average coins set aside
    - I have a couple with clear die polish marks by Jefferson's lips/nose
    - I have one strike through of a thread or such below the word trust.
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • I think it's image too. I wouldn't mind owning one.

Wasn't there an article recently in NN that talked about a "dropped T" on the new nickel? Think I saw a picture that showed one with the "dropped T" with the T still on it, just above the date.
  • Someone on another message board mentioned that maybe this coin could one of the causes of the dropped "T" coin.
  • Anyone have a link to the "dropped T" article???
